From reading threads about this and that, i noticed that some of you talk about mixing glitters in with gels etc, can i just ask, do you buy little separate pots to do this with or mix on the nail? or what way do you mix it? I realise this may sound a silly question but at the moment, im strictly doing pink and whites as im only new to this game!

You can buy spare gel pots, or I sometimes I mix some glitter in a pot with just a small amount of clear ultrabond left in it. Usually I dip my brush in the gel and then into the glitter and apply to the nail. This means I can keep lots of glitters in stock without having lots of jars of pre mixed glitter gels made up. Hope that helps

Hi!
I scoop up the amount of clear gel I need and put it on the backpaper from a form and mix in the glitter there.
HTH

I am new to the gel side of things, but I have been dipping my gell into the glitter, rather than mixing it in a pot, I think if it was a mixture of glitters you would have to mix in a pot though, dipping into glitter might not get the exact same mix and might loo different on each nail?? x

i always dip my brush in gel then in glitter, i find you get much better glitter coverage doing it this way, just my opinion. also then theres no little pots to clean, less storage, and you only use what you need so theres no waste. on the other hand i ALWAYS premix my glitter and acrylic powder... go figure lol... it just comes down to personal preference.

i have never mixed my glitters with gel,i always dip my dotting tool into the gel and then dip into the glitter and apply to the nail.ive never had any problems this way it allows me better control over the product and i make less mess, lol.

Thats exactly what i do also you get a much better coverage if you dont mix it i find.

I find the best way to mix is to use the shiney side of my business card or the back of a form.
Depending on the coverage needed (full glitter tip or just a sparkle) I use enough clear and then add the glitter and mix to a thick enough consistency. I always test it on the pinkie first and add more gel / glitter if needed to get the correct coverage. If the mix is correct it is much easier to apply and you wont need to spend as much time placing it.

I avoid pots as I find it much easier to mix multiple colours and then just throw away after.....also your clients love the fact that it's an original mix just for them!

I put a small amount of glitter on a piece of tin foil and then dip my gel covered tool into it. The amount of times i've dropped a blob of gel into my glitter pot and had to fish it out again - i'm less messy this way!!! lol

Thanks a mill for all your suggestions, im going to have to get some glitter and try them out!! Especially coming up to xmas

Im finding this difficult to not get random pieces of glitter spreading over the nail and in my gel.

I paint where i want glitter with gel and sprinkle glitter over with a nail tip. I then shape the smile line with an orange stick and cure.

i cant use a lint free wipe with uv wipe on as it sticks in the glitter and fibers shred off.

hmm....

i personally would not sprinkle the glitter on as i would make to much mess.
try applying it the way i suggested above and then once you have cured them do not remove the tacky layer and apply a layer of clear all over the nail, cure and remove tacky layer before filing.you should find this much easier and less messy.and if you still need to you can always still use an orange stick to tidy the smile line.x

Wouldnt it take a while with the dotting tool? how long does it take you?

Its quite quick pouring it over. Its not too messy, its just the fact a few bits of unstuck glitter stays on even after tapping and because i cant wipe, i then paint the next layer of gel on and the strays, be it only under 10 pieces, get in my pot an on the nail bed area.

Thanks x

i think its the same as anything that the more you practice the quicker you will be.it still takes me between 1.30 mins - 2hrs to do a set but thats partly because i only really do family and friends rather than it being my application technique.
it takes me no longer to do glitter than it does to do a french manicure using my dotting tool

Its takes me 1.30-2hr at moment too, but i am just getting back into it so im slower than i was. I dont sculpt (yet) so i do a tip i dont paint a tip on and then i would put glitter on, so that would take me another 15-20 mins i think.

Im trying to get someone in to practice on this week.

if i do glitter this is the way i do it,im sure there are other ways that techs find easier but this is the method i find easier.
prep etc.. and apply nail tip
build nail with either gel or l&p
i would now buff just to make sure that there are no bumps this only takes me a few minutes as i usually spend more time getting a smooth application.
now i would dip dotting tool into gel and the straight into glitter and apply directly to nails
cure then apply clear gel over the whole nail then once cured i would do my final file and shape before applying my gel top coat.
it may take abit longer but i find that i waste less product as i dont have to file most of the old product off to remove the glitter as its closer to the top if that makes sense.:)
