Hi geeks,

I have a doctors appointment this afternoon 4:30. I have a rash all over my hands, in between my fingers, up my arms, on my calfs and on my thighs just noticed some are now starting to come on my scalp. These are red and itchy:cry: I did my nails 2 days ago had no nails on 3 weeks previous and have not done anyone elses nails as Im setting up for mobile. I've had the rash on my legs for about a week but put it down to prickly heat rash, cos of the weather.

Am I right in saying this is not overexposure!

hey sarah

hopefully all will become clearer after your apt this afternoon.

I had little blistery patches come up on my hands and elbows and then dissapear and come up on other places - i have been back and forth to doctors / dermatologists for last 3 months.

It all started around the time of my new business as a Nail Technician but all the doctors have told me that its nothign to do with it, though i was surprised as this was the only change in my life, i offered to take in the msds sheets but they said no as definately wasnt to do with products etc.

I was told it was psorisis, and have been on various creams to help combat this.

More recently by the same DR (Bupa) i have been told it may be the adhesive im using - which annoys me a little as i have spent a lot of money on apts and creams etc and i did offer to bring in my msds sheets etc on first apt, and at one point she even got annoyed with me for keep suggesting it may be product / new business related

well to cut a long story shorter !! i went to another dr at hospital for patch tests on Tuesday (which i now have all over my back .. patches that is not rash ! - most attractive ! and this dr says its not the adhesive and doesnt think psoriasis !! what to do eh ! if the experts dont know and keep changing their minds ?!! He had a look through my msds sheet and he had a list of items to test for under the heading of Nail Technician tests !

so i go back tomorrow to have patches removed and hopefully be a little bit wiser as to what has been causing this, even if not product related - he also suggested bringing back msds sheets to do further tests if nothing shows up this time

just wanted to say i feel for you and will be thinking of you and hope you get some answers and resolution soon

:| Sorry to hear about your rash. It is fustrating when you get no answers from your doctor straight away. Hopefully they will get to the bottom of it. Just wondered if you have tried to vary your products so you can definatly rule them out? I think phrosiasis is genrally genetic so if someone in your family has it then you could have it to. Let us know what happens and take care.

Have you had false tan on??

I'm really allergic to it. But as it develops I get really itchy. I can't remember the name of the ingredient but developing tans contain something which causes many, many people to become irritated by it (begins with D, I think). I believe it is high on the list of common sensitizers.

Allergic reactions occur because of repeated and prolonged overexposure. So the chances of you being allergic to nail products was unlikely since it was "NEW" to you. You are far more likely to have become allergic (first irritated) over a long period of time (like a favourite perfume - fragrances are most likely to cause problems) to something that you've been using repeatedly for a while.

Hi, yes now you mention this i have heard it before !!

not sure why then they are testing me from the "nail technician" list of items to test ?? well if it highlights any ingredients that could be in other items such as perfume then its a result eh

Ive never been tested for anything before and im wondering how they are going to narrow it down to what it could possibly be as there must be ooodles of things that it may possibly be ??

fingers crossed for tomorrow and results eh OMG i do hope its not perfume, i never go anywhere without it !!

thanks mandini

Hi again,

The doctor reckons its an allergic reaction to something. I really hope it isnt my L&P:cry: I did go swimming with the girls last week, he said that might be it. In the mean time he gave me cream, scalp shampoo and anti-histamine tabs. Check me out Im a walking chemist. He said to carry on as I am and if its no better to go back in a week. Fingers crossed for me girls.

I doubt very much if this reaction is due to your nail products ... If it were, it would not be on your legs and scalp etc. It would be in areas where your skin had repeated and prolonged exposure to something. Have you been bathing in monomer??? Rolling in your nail dust???

I feel for you because I know how miserable things like prickly heat are. Hope he sorts it for you.

Hi there

I would say it's a combination of the hot weather and perhaps dust getting onto your skin from filing. My skin plays up in the heat with funny rashes etc. However, my arms have been awful since the hot weather, and I have noticed when doing nails lately they have got worse, could be because my arms have been exposed to the dust (no sleeves), and if hot probably the dust sticks more. It's very itchy from inside elbow and up and down my arm.

I have also noticed there are very dry and what feels like tiny spots on my face too.

We have a pool at home and my son suffers from eczema and whenever he spends time in the pool the eczema clears up, probably due to the chlorine tablets. So would be surprised if its swimming causing it unless of course the pool is not maintained.

As far as seeing a specialist/doctor re skin complaints, well I've had enough experience with taking my son to see them and never got any real answers. Half the time they don't really know what causes it and just end up prescribing you steroids, if I had put the amount of steroids they prescribed him over the years on his skin, it would be paper thin now.

hi there was something in one of the mags , i cant remember if it was pro beauty, or the babtac one, but there was a guy who invented some kind of soap for skin conditions it worked wonders on people with exema , psoriosis etc i will try and find it , it was natural soit is worth a try :)

Thanks girls for your kind words. Dee that would be cool if you can find the name of the soap, willing to try anything. The cream has eased off my itching a bit, just want this all to go feel so scabby:cry:

hi

If your really itchy get some oats and put them in a pair of old tights and tye them round your taps then run your bath water so its going through the oats ( does that make sense?) Oatmeal is really soothing and calming on the skin, excellant for eczema, irritated skin ect.

Sarah Lou,
I too have a damned rash!.
Im a sensitive soul at the best of times but Ive spent a lot of time in the garden and wonder if it maybe due to bugs and heat.
Im on anti-histermines too with steroid cream.
Keep me posted how you go on.
Oh! and I use Moor soap, its about the only thing my skin can tolerate at the mo.

The link for this product is www.originalhealthsoap.co.uk. I had kept the article from BABTACs magazine. Haven't tried it but it sounds fab as a natural alternative to what the Dr's might offer you.

Hi karren,

Im glad your results were clear.:)

Its my hands that are the worst at the moment. So friggin itchy, I can only apply my cream twice daily, but its not very helpful, just hope it settles down in the next few days. Im convinced it was smimming, just makes sense, as its on my scalp aswell. It wasnt my usual pool either, we went to Colchester for a change. My skin must be more sensitive than I thought...
