Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could guide me in the right direction of reasonable rates of renting a room?

I am hoping to do this in a sports and recreational centre (council owned) and have a meeting with the manager next week but I would really like to have an idea of reasonable rates.

I am initially only going to rent this maybe once a week on a Saturday with the possibility of increasing this if the demand is there.

All help would be appreciated

Not sure if i have put this thread in the right place, apologies if not

This is such a tough question to answer as it all depends on the area, the salon, the clientele etc.

If I was to guess the average room rental would be around £100 - £150 but that is to give you a very rough idea.

I live and work in a very afluent area. I paid £90 per week for the room I rented previously for over 2 years, it was a busy salon in a housing area. My friend rents a room in the town centre a mile down the road and pays £250 per week. Both rooms in hair salon but different locations and massive difference in rent.

Juliette is right, it fluctuates massively. There is no formula to work it out. Best thing to do is ask what rent they have in mind.

I personally don't rent rooms part time as the room can't usually be used by anyone else the rest of the time, so if you get a part time rent, you are pretty lucky.

Why not suggest an hourly rate during a defined trial period of one or two months while you are establishing yourself: suggest £8-10 p/h
That way you can gauge demand and start work promptly without stress of trying to fill appointments.
Then you will be able to determine the value of the rental
Good luck!

Thanks for your responses , i know it's hard to estimate!! I was thinking an hourly rate as well but wanted an idea of the going rate. I am meeting him on Tuesday but did not want to go absolutely clueless of the common prices etc. He is aware the room rental will be on a part time basis, maybe even only Saturdays at first and he seems happy with that, I won't be preventing him from using the room as being mobile I will be taking all my stuff away with me. I can imagine this will be a pain in the bum but needs must and we all need to start somewhere. I shall be keeping my office job on as well as this is my safety net for income.
