Hi

I'm redecorating my wee salon in a few weeks and thinking of changing how I display products.

I want to display products better and hopefully sell more!

At the moment I use an open display unit (looks like a book case, but its open with no back and goes from floor to above head with shelves).

Would be so interested to hear what everyone else is using as I'd like to change mine. Do you use locked cabinets?

I'm really space limited and mine are open so always kinda conscious of shop lifting.

Thanks for your help

Clare

I have some Ikea cabinets that are wall hung & that have a glass front door (stops the products getting dusty!).

oooo they sound good, must go to the ikea website and have a wee nosy at them, thank you!

we use some lovely chunky oak shelving along with contrasting silver cd shelves(ikea also) the cd shelves are great for essential oils and nail polishes amongst other things. We did initially have glass doors on some cabinets but to be honest it seemed to put people off a bit I seem to think i have also read an article on selling that didn't recommend putting things behind glass. People do like to touch, feel and smell. If you want some inspiration the ikea web site has a business section that show 100s of different businesses and their creative use of ikea furniture. Just a thought...hth xx

it depends what you wanna display. I notice in beauty salons they have one of each bottle on the shelve, far more elegant, whereas with hair, we have our shelves stocked with 5-6 of each product, so when someone buys it we just shuffle everything forward. you could get some of the shelves they look like they are hanging off the wall in the corner....doesnt sound good ill search for them...

Buy Extendable Black and White Shelf Unit. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

thats not what i was describing at all, but its a nice idea, and only taking up wall space not space on the floor xxx

I certainly wouldn't want people "touching, feeling & smelling" my products as once open they have a shortened life-span & I'm not sure people generally want to buy products that have been opened & played about with by other people! As I have the Decleor tester stand this isn't a problem for me anyway.

Generally speaking the glass door isn't a barrier to purchase as clients mostly ask for advice on which products to buy, they don't normally self-select products - part of what they are paying for is professional advice. But that of course depends entirely on what you're selling!

I do agree with this we have our samples with the actual products rather than separate stands purely due to space, and as you say it does depend on what you sell. We stock a variety of skincare products but also a lot of crystals, dowsers, incense etc. so touch and feel is very important, and we have found we sell more this way.

Although i would add i did like the lack of dust when we did have glass doors. xx

Between my two glass fronted display cabinets I have three glass shelves & the amount of dust they gather is ridiculous - I'd have everything in cabinets if I had my way, clients included so they couldn't make any mess!!!
