Hey guys, I know this is very subjective, but which of the two brands would you say has a wider range of choice for blonde hair, in terms of hi lift, toners, gloss etc.? My current hairdresser uses Alfaparf and I cant seem to find a toner shade I like. We have a Redken specialist in town as well and I have read alot about the brand, so I'm pondering what to do next. Thanks all!

Really? That’s ridiculous. A decent colourist will always mix the products to obtain the exact tone required. You don’t just point at a colour on a chart and apply it...!

Sounds like you might need a new hairdresser.

Yikes...I was afraid of that, AcidPerm...she uses one shade of toner, which is a level 9 ashy violet to cancel out the yellow tones, never a mix of two or more...maybe I am always wrong in explaining what I want, since I aim for a cool, yet not grey/dull look

Maybe more of a cool beige rather than a grey ash? Obviously, you need violet tones to cancel out the yellow but too much violet can look grey and dull.
I must admit, I much prefer clients to show me pictures rather than try to describe a colour.
You’re best bet is to look online on places like Pinterest and save the pics to your phone.

Also, some hairdressers are not confident mixing tubes of colour to create different shades. A confident colourist loves to play around with mixes and often develops a few favourite ‘recipes’.

I did show pictures, too, but was told that those were on a lighter base, i.e. a 10, while I am a 9. Since I only put hi lift on, it is unlikely I will go super light. However, how do I tell the hairdresser to try mixing if she doesn't usually do that? Plus I have no idea what should be mixed...so would you rather suggest I try an expert colorist rather than a regular hairdresser? I am slowly coming at wits end with never hitting the right shade of blonde!

Before I trained, I‘d start up a conversation with complete strangers and say how much I liked their hair and where did they go to get it done? That way you might chance upon a really great hairdresser, but then I’m a bit weird like that. 😆

Well, I'm a bit weird like that too, I did that with perfumes I loved on someone, so I might just do that if I ever see a hair I love :D
