Hi guys,
I know this is a wierd one, but I really need help with a question in my reflexology assignment. The assignment is entitled 'Support from physical and mental abuse'.

The question is... What should you do if a child or adult client mentions that they are or have been abused?
I'm pretty stumped on this one as I know we have a duty towards confidentiality, but at the same time, do we report this kind of thing?

HELP!!!

your tutor should have covered this with you tbh.

the answer is, you pass their details onto social services or similar organisation.

Ann, as a teacher, I know you would report this for a child, but would you do so for an adult client? Surely as an adult it is up to them to disclose to whoever they want to or not? Not had any experience with adults in these situations, so am curious. xx

yes, sorry, I was answering for a child.
for an adult, you could suggest organisations, offer more support, but really you need to protect YOURSELF as a therapist as this is way out of your expertise.

what this question is asking is for you to be prepared and know what to do, for a child you should have an adult present anyway.

Thanks Ann!

Thanks guys,
Ann, you're right, it should have been covered, but our tutor is so random. She just hands out leaflets with the questions and doesn't cover any of the topics in class.
I know doing your own research is a good way to learn, but a little background information wouldn't hurt!!!

Thanks again,
luv Tasha
