Registering my business name?

Hi geeks,

I'm currently setting up self employed and have just heard some rumours that a salon is opening around the corner from me and will be using the name I currently go by, I am self employed in a salon so have a separate Facebook page and have everything registered to my business name. Can anyone tell me how I go about registering my business name before its too late?!
