Can I ask the importance you put on your retail area? What do you sell and do you sell something other than products that you use in salon? If so what? We are looking at revamping and expanding our retail area...something to make people stop and look and I would be interested in any hints, tips etc.

Thank you :D

Have a look in one of my albums, there are some salon pics, after my mini refurb. I now have glass cabinets with retail jewellery and opi etc. I did sell some bits before, but only on a 'have you got any cuticle oil? yep i'll get you one from out the back' basis. Now I have a dedicated retail area it all sells itself. The jewellery Is stunning and gets so many compliments from the way we've displayed it. hth x x

Hya,

Essential oils is a good one, we use to burn lemon and lime oil or manderine oil and everyone who would come in always asked what was that lovely smell. This was enough to sell it.

Tweezers sell easily.

We also use to sell tons of Austrailian Body Care Lotion after waxing.

When I advise businesses I always say have your products in a way where customers can pick them up and feel the product, once they've picked it up it sometimes gives that feeling as they already own it.

A good tester area is great too. Have procedures in place to make sure products don't go walkies though.

Hi, we sell lots of different bits such as:
skin care, nail care, essential oils, spray tan care, ear candles, incense, glass files, cherry bags, crystals, jewelery, beeswax and soy candles, relaxing cds, and even a few tarot and angel cards.

It all depends on what your "thing" is, we are very natural, organic, spiritual & holistic than being a stereotypical beauty salon. I have to say it sound like we sell loads but we still only have a small retail area and it isn't cluttered. hth

Products you like and believe in are really important. Also products that you've used in the treatment, for example like Natasha I retail Auatralian Bodycare Skin Wash and Hand & Body Lotion as afterwax products. To reinforce the products from the start of the treatment I have on my trolley ABC Happy Hands cleanser, ABC wipes and I use the Hand & Body Lotion in the treatment. Then if the client doesn't want to buy one, offer a sachet of skin wash or lotion for them to try. I'm not using product A but trying to sell product B.

Thanks for your input guys:D
I do have a couple of display cabinets already, one is built into the wall behind the desk and i have a free standing one, i also have a big tester stand. As has been said previously its great if a client can pick something up, smell it, touch it etc, and we'd like to be able to do that. The problem we have is that we are a salon situated within a health club, there are doors into our reception area however they cant be locked due to fire regulations and we dont have a full time receptionist so I cant have lots of shelves stocked full of lovely products because they'll go walkies!! We've had a couple of things go off the tester stand but that is mostly left alone. We're looking at expanding the retail area so people can browse but i am concerned they will still be less likely to buy because it will be behind glass.

BritMacGirl - can I ask where you get your jewellery from please? We did stock some until last week (made by a client), it was lovely, people liked it but not enough to buy it.

pm'd you hun x x
