I just wonderd if anyone had any advice on retialing products such as skin care etc, i work from home and just keep a small amount of retial stock in but so far i havent sold much, retialing isnt my strong point and i dont like to feel as though im pushing things onto my client, i've been to many salons before where they do the hard sell on products which puts me off, but i cant seem to get the inbetween.

Any advice would be much appriciated =)

This is where your consultation comes in, I always ask my clients what they use on their skin when thery come in for a facial or in fact this is always a question on my consultation form as well as, how did they hear of us. It gives you good feedback and not just from the point of finding out about contra indications, but what she expects from their treatment. Ask them if they have any concerns about their skin, they will probably say lines around their eyes, blocked pores, sagging skin, etc, and that's where you take your lead, if you have a product that suits that problem you just tell them about it, ask about their cleansing routine, do they use soap and water, then they will be suited to a wash off cleanser. If they use cleanser and toner, then show them what you have, dont apologise for the price, its a professional product and you are the expert, and are qualified to give them this advice. They may not buy everything you recommend but they may try one or two products, and once you start selling it will give you more confidence. I love selling skincare, I really believe in the products I sell and use them myself and then they comment how good my skin is. Try this, it works and once you do, you wont look back I promise. Hope this helps, if you want any more advice just message me and I'll try to help.

I know what you mean Kayle, I feel excatly the same!
I do have a corner shelf with retail items on it, which I kind of let sell themself :o
Do you have a retail shelf/display/cabinet?
Maybe when you have done a facial you could give your client a card with the products you recommend, so they can look at it in their own time & not feel pressured into buying anything.
Or maybe have a retail page on your website, when your clients can buy products from.
To be honest, I am not the best person to give advice on retailing (but there is a couple of ideas for you) I will however, be keeping my eye on this thread to see if I can pick up any tips :D x

I have been thinking of writing and holding some inexpensive workshops for retailing, it sounds as though it might go down quite well? Not sure though if S2 still do one, might be worth checking

After a facial I sit my clients down, run through what I've done and why, and then I give them a sheet with the home care products on them.
I tell them that if they don't look after their skin at home they won't get the most out of the facial, and that it's a bit like going to the dentist and not cleaning their teeth in between visits.
Whilst the veil/masque is on I pick out which of the products is going to be the best for them and I have them on the desk as I'm talking through the home care.
Then I have the diary open at the 4 or 6 week mark (depending on what's best for the skin needs) and tell them I have a slot available on x date at x time, shall we get it booked in now before the slot goes.
It works!

Thanks for all your replies and advice :) given me some good ideas for retialing my skin care, i've made up some forms to fill in which products i recommend for each client etc
