Hi guys...

1st post! I have a new client who would like to go blonder and incorporate a root shadow. My question is which colour would be better for the root? Illumina 6/16 or 7/81? 1st pic is client now 2nd is root shadow colour she would like

The goal picture is more like 7/81, but it looks like your clients natural base is darker. I'd mix them?

I think the target picture looks like the hair (including the root) has been pre lightened first then the root melt added to achieve the steely tone.

If you are colouring without pre lightning the root first I definitely use the /8 tone. It wont achieve the steely tone of that root but will leave you with more of a natural ash base.
