hi,

Tonight I have tested a couple of my spray tan samples first one being sienna x 12% wich was amazing, guide colour was lush and NO running.

secondly I tried the 10% celeb secrets hmm seemed to have some trouble, it was really running from the second I started spraying???

also please can someone give me any tips on using less solution im using about 100ml per tan which i know is too mkuch but cant seem to reduce it??

I'v messed around with the gun but still not helping i use a HVLP550.

I know some might say the running is due to using too much solution but this problem started on the start of my second spray.

thank you

When i first started ,i was using way too much solution and even now i probably use a tad too much.
I had my tantrick samples the other day and the guide colour was a lot darker than my celebrity secrets one. When i got my sample bottles i thought 'oh god i'll never get a whole body out of one of those!'. Because the guide colour was much darker i used a lot less solution. I think if you have put a dark colour guide on and then go and do a tan straight after with a solution that has a lighter guide colour then you tend to want to get that same colour and spray too much without realising. I did when i first started training.
Maybe you moved your gun a bit closer to try and get the colour darker.
I would try it again and see if it happens again. I've never had a problem with celebrity secrets and my clients absolutely love it. If you do get a little run then it's usually because you are a bit too close but just get a piece of couch roll and flick it to blend it in.:)

thanks angelina,

I knew it would be something i was doing or the settings on the machine but you are right you do tend to want to make the guide colour darker lol.

I know what you mean about the tantrick size sample I'm really worried about using them, I thought I might just do upper body tans with those, I wish I could just use the minimum amount of spray as I'd make a hell of a lot more profit :)

also can you mix solutions of the same brand eg. mix a 10% with an 8% or would this be wrong???

When i had my Tantrick samples i had a 10%, 12%, Essence of summer, autumn gold and the max. The max has a base of 10% so i thought i would do my nephew with the 10% and if i didn't have enough then i could use the max as well. I managed to do all of him except his face with one bottle.
It's nothing you are doing wrong, it just takes a bit of practice that's all.
What i would do is get 2 willing volunteers and spray one how you would normally spray them. With the next volunteer just spray over them once and don't go over any parts. You will surprised how they turn out. I used to overspray because i was worried about missing bits but whether you spray someone once or twice you are still only getting the same chemical reaction and once the guide colour is washed off they will look the same. It's the DHA content that determines the colour. I splodged people when i first started and they had darker patches but once the guide colour was washed off the splodge had gone. Obviously once you have practised enough you will get it right and you will get an even tan so that people can go straight out without having to shower first.
When you have sprayed your 2 volunteers, check the one you only sprayed once and see if you have missed any bits. Next time you spray you will know which bits to concentrate on:)
A lot of solutions now have booster drops so if you mainly do 10% and only have the odd 12% to do you can just add the booster drops in rather than having to have to buy a bottle of 12% that you may not use as much.

yes thats a good idea, I'm doing a couple more tans this weekend so i'll give it a go.

I actually qualified over three years ago but stopped for quite some time, and if im honest when I first started doing them i was really crap and didnt think a lot about them but now im that bit older, im paying out a lot of money for eqipment and solution etc I want to be amazing at it and have people comment on how good their tan looks and not forgeting my reputation.

I sprayed my friend last night she usualy goes to the salon for fake bake but I managed to persuade her to try a different brand with me, from start to finish she commented on things I was doing different than the salon (eg. oh! why you putting oil on my cuticles the salon didn't..... how come your putting vaseline on my lips they didn't...) then when it was done she said it was the best she'd had yet :)

all of those extra little tips and hint I picked up from here and through reading tonilee tutorial but it does really make you stand out from the rest.

but when I did my other friend and it was so drippy I thought bloody hell can you believe it I was on a roll and now this, knocks your confidence I think. but thinking of it I might have been too close.

sorry for going on

Yes i get that too. I spray the torso horizontally not vertically but that's how i was trained and that's how i feel more comfortable, but i still get 'i've never been sprayed this way before. I also spray horizontally across the face although i was trained to do it vertically. We all pick up our little habits and Tonilee's tutorial also helped me-the upside down 'y' on arms and legs-thanks Tonilee:lol:

turn your gun down! I can get 2 tans out of a tantrick sample, and that is spraying them twice!

Have you done the couch roll test? turn your gun down as far as you can until no solution comes out at all, then turn it up gradually, imagine it as 5 minutes on a clock and just turn it that amount at a time.. eventually you will start to see some solution coming out....

When you get to the point that you have solution coming out onto the tissue that is clearly visible as the colour guide but it is not wetting right through the tissue you have it at the right setting. You only want to stain the tissue not soak it through! I test this at the start of every tan to make sure it is spraying right also.

You are NOT trying to spray the person brown, just spray them evenly and I promise you by the time you have finished doing the whole body they will look tanned, even if you cant really see it going on while you are spraying. I generally only see a slight shadow going on them but by the time i've finished they have a knicker line. Have faith in your solution to do it's job.

Spraying this way uses about 35ml MAX per person, and thats giving two coats. I always do this to make sure they are nice and even, its like painting a wall, first coat will give a covering but you only get the proper covering on the second coat.

I have NEVER sprayed someone so wet that they need to be dabbed with tissue afterwards spraying like this either. Less stickiness, less staining of clothes and sheets, MORE PROFIT per litre of solution for you :green:

Try it

I do the couch roll test too! I had very small sample bottles of tantrick and if Collin could tell me what size they are! Haven't a clue with mls!!

Jaffacake thanks for the advice, I'll give it ago in the morn and have a good play with the gun, I must admit when I was spraying it was quite wet.

Yes angelina the samples are tiny but they prob send out that size in the thinking that we only use that amount so hopefully a few more tans and i'll be laughing, sample size will be just enough :)

by the way a massive thanks to collin for samples, most companies only send out the one sample which makes it difficult to decide because you can only try out the one colour so thank you very much.

Excellent, informative response Sherrie  This is exactly how I do my tans too.
