me n Mr Chick suffer from SAD.
Was thinking of investing in a white box as they have come down in price considerably.

I also take high doses of st John's wort which I generally start end of November.

anyone use a whitebox? anyone have any suggestions?

I have one but haven't used it for a couple of years. The trick is to not sit and stare at them, you just have them on in the room for about half an hour and as long as you can see it out the corner of your eye, that's perfect.

I've read and heard fantastic results from lightboxes so I'd say give it a go. I think there are also alarm clocks with a built in SAD lamp which starts to come on gradually. xxx

There are many individuals that suffer from this disorder in the northern hemisphere during winter months..most dont actually know it though and the symptoms generally appear mid winter onward until the sunnier spring months.

These lamps do indeed have a positive effect and daily dosage does appear to make a positive difference as does a (mild) dosage of UV from a low powered sunbed..the old fashioned types that require you to lay for 20mins and receive minimal dosages of UV.

So in addition to the light box get down to a sunbed salon and have a weekly go on their mildest sunbed during the worst times of the disorder..it will help make you feel a million times better.

Unfortunately whether we agree with these devices or not..mild exposure to UV is something we all derive a positive benefit from..especially during winter months when natural sunlight is at a minimum.

Likewise reduce alcohol intake and increase levels of exercises and activity and eat a healthy diet with plenty of veg....

if we are fortunate enough to have a bright sunny day..well take the dog or Mr HC (or both)for a long walk on the hills.....this will aid a positive attitude which goes a long way in counter action to the disorder

Can anyone recommend where to buy one of the light boxes from, didn't want to spend too much on one, but I think they really do work, from what I've heard.

May as well get one, coz doesn't look like we're gonna be getting any sun!

not sure where you can specifically get these...if you google it there are many internet resellers out there .
Good luck

These guys are a UK company who make SAD treatment lights and also Dawn Simulation alarm clocks:

SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder - Light Therapy - Lumie

I have one of their Dawn Simulator alarm clocks, it helps a bit.

However be aware that the dawn simulators are NOT SAD treatment lights - those are sold separately.

Not particularly cheap, but then what price overcoming SAD?
