Hi everyone,

Just wondering if any one can help me, i am wanting to start doing mobile clients, just wondered what pointers or tips any one can give me,

obviously when you go to a new clients house for the first time you dont know anything about them, just wondered what safety advice i need?

any thoughts and help on this would be great!

thanks!

Hi, I am mobile and work at home too. When I am going mobile I always make sure that my family know where I am going and I always make sure that I have my mobile. Most clients are fine and normally you get a feel for them when you speak to them on the phone.

My main concern is going somewhere that I am unfamiliar with and am always very aware when taking my kit out and putting it back in the car, especially when it is dark. Although saying that my kit is life and god help anyone who tried to get it off me! I would say basicaly be aware of what is going on around you and trust your gut when in a client's house, if you feel uncomfortable at all etc.

I suppose there are some strange ones out there but all my clients are lovely.

hth a bit

I visit clients homes as part of my job teaching children with special needs. Like Fi says, you get a feel for them on the phone, or very quickly when you meet them. She also makes great suggestions.

I'd also suggest always making sure your exit to the door is clear. When setting up your work area, make sure they (on the other side of the table) are furthest from the door, leaving you able to access it quicker. Wear shoes you can run in. When walking from and to your car and when entering a house for the first time keep your keys in your hand if possible, with a yale or car key pointing out between your index and middle finger. This could be used as a weapon if needed, but also gives you quick entry to your car when outside.

Have some kind of code so that you can get in contact with someone if you feel unsafe, eg "Oh, I think I've the cuticle manicure solution. I'll just phone my husband to see if I've left it." When he gets the call with this imaginary product he knows you feel trouble and can turn up at the door, or get help for you.

Make sure, as Fi suggests that someone knows where you are going, but also when you should be back, and contacts you if you don't return at the appointed time.

It sounds scary what I'm talking about, however I'm sure all your clients will be lovely, as are all the parents of the children I've worked with, but it's best that you are always prepared.

We cater to Mobile Spa Parties, It helps if you are not the only technican, it is always safer to travel in pairs :)

I never have had a problem as a matter of fact, at first I though you might of had some questions about the client's saftey. I try and limit the extension cords, I have a battery fans to dry polish and a head lamp I wear on my head again battery for extra lighting. I find that is the highest chance of having accidents... is tripping over things... keep all cases neat and put aside if you are not using them.

Please see my site for ideas or email me if you have any questions.

I seem to have a knack for picking up immediately on the phone if they'll be a problem.

I've never done this but you could pretend to text your husband saying to the client, I just have to text my husband to let him know I've arrived.

That way the client knows that you have someone looking out for you.

I've always had it in the back of my mind if I ever felt uncomfortable when I get to someones house to send a pretend text and tell the client that your husband will come looking for you if you don't notify him when you get back in your car to leave after the booking (I don't have a husband but clients don't know that).

I make sure i have there home phone number as most people that contact me use their mobile number, this way you can phone them the day of the appt to double check that this person atr least exists, if you see what i mean!!

wow! you've all scared me now!!!!

Tbh, I've been mobile for 3 years now and the only problems I've had have been dogs/children/phone ringing etc...... I take people at face value and believe that if someone rings up for nails then nails are what they want...... I don't worry and have never had cause to worry.

I do use my common sense, so carry my mobile at all times and there's a copy of my diary on the home computer (use a PDA when out and about)..... So if push came to shove my husband could track me down (if he noticed I was missing in the first palce, lol)!!!!!

I've never had a problem in the year and a half I have been mobile. If I was worried I would call from outside the house and ask them to come out to help me so I could chat to them outside first! Also make bookings over the phone for new clients. I only treat male clients if a female makes the booking and is present during the treatment.
