Hi to hair forum..

Just popping over from nail/beauty forum to grab some tips really on salon core supplies (hair section) . Will try and keep, this short ...

I am opening a new salon which will have a hair section, chairs will be rented out to s/e stylists etc..

I have decided to supply the core hair products...shampoo, conditioners , styling products ...(s/e to supply colours, solutions and any specialist treatments they do..etc) ...

Do any of you ladies have any tips for me, is it advisable to work with a core brand such as wella for this ?...what brands are the most cost effective and provide a wide range of product for different types of hair ?..as hair professionals/salon owners what advice on this could you give me..

or shall I wait until I am interviewing and ask potential renters what they prefer , and work with the majority...

Hope this all makes sense lol..

Many thanks

Sarah x

My opinion: If I was renting a chair, I would want to use my own (styling) products as these will be retailed by me to my clients and add to MY profit.

If you get a serious retailer then they will want to use what they sell at the back wash.

If you meet someone not business savvy like that they won't care what you use and if you bought universal gallons from the wholesale (cheap rubbish), which to be fair would be all I would expect to be provided in this case.

Agreed, most hair colour ranges are complimented by the technology involved with the aftercare products of that same brand, the science in most major brands has been done using the brands colours, so goldwell aftercare products work perfectly with goldwell colours, matrix with matrix, wella with wella etc, they should definatley be doing their own products and retail for the reason above too & plus it's going to cost you quite a bit to keep supplying products, and you'll need to be there pushing the sales for the retail just to try to get something back off it, when their self employed they should have complete say over what products they use and any money from the sale of products should go directly to them

I have 3 stylists renting a chair, they all have their own clients, 1 uses colourissimo colours and 1 uses a really cheap brand that I have never heard of. I supply hairspray - silhouette by schwarzkopf, morrocanoil and matrix styling products and matrix shampoo and conditioner, which I must say if they had to buy themselves they would not be so slapdash with how much they use, but I do retail these products and when their clients buy it because they have had it used on them I keep the money, the stylists wouldn't spend out of their own pockets for the price of the products, so in more than happy to reap the benefits of their clients buying it x

And I also think having a few good quality products used and seen in salon looks good in the salon rather than lots of different ranges like the warehouses own brands, but this is just my opinion :)
