I know what you are all going to say – there is no comparison between Salon System and OPI! I am currently setting up and going mobile as a Nail Technician. I am training with Young Nails which I love and doing NVQ Level 2 Nail Services. I want to use OPI for manicure and pedicure but am finding that I have got so much expense with setting up and training and all the products and equipment I am buying, I am having to cut back on some things. I was thinking of using the Salon System Thai Manicure and Pedicure range as I just can’t afford to buy the whole range from OPI at the moment. What does everyone think about this? I would still like to use OPI but perhaps when I have got some money back. Or do you think I should try and fork out for OPI range and start as I mean to go on? Or is it ok to mix the two ranges if I can only afford a few OPI bits?

HELP!! There is so much else I need/want to buy to create great treatments, I feel like I need to be made of money!

Thanks in advance! xx

I guess to start with I would buy maybe the salon system mani range and buy OPI polished. In my opinion clients dont physically see the long term benefit of regular manicures but they do however see how long their polish lasts. So i would comprimise and buy the Thai range which I very much like.

For what its worth I use Skin Truth manicure products but use CND polishes only, and then CND and NSI acyrlic.

I use the CND Mani / Pedi product ranges and OPI nail polishes in the salon.

I know for a fact that I have gained many of my mani / pedi clients BECAUSE I use OPI polishes...

All of my clients have commented on how lovely my manis & pedis are, but not one of them have ever asked what products I am using, so the fact that I am offering CND manis & pedis has not attracted clients iykwim....

BUT, the fact that they love the feel of the products I use and the results, has resulted in repeat bookings from EVERY client I've had visit the salon for a mani or pedi. This goes to show that it is well worth investing in high quality products.

I can't recommend OPI Polish highly enough.... goes on a dream, dries fast, I love the ProWide brush and clients will actively seek out a salon which uses OPI polish.

I have never used OPI Mani/Pedi products because...

CND tick all the boxes for me with there Mani/Pedi ranges... they are fabulous and my repeat bookings are certainly thanks to these products and the results obtained by using them.

OPI polishes will last you forever. I have some I bought 10 years ago and they are still going strong. I do have around 250 nail varnishes and am in therapy! ha ha ah ha!!! Clients do like the fact that their varnish lasts so it is better to buy a decent brand, OPI, SpaRitual, CND or China Glaze are all fab!

My OPIs have been in my car Summer and Winter and are still fine, not thick or sticky or anything like that so a great investment.

You could buy Salon Systems mani and pedi stuff or maybe think about the Lomasi range from Young Nails, this is sort of an in between price and the quality is fab. :) xx

And the CND ranges come in kits that are affordable and in minis or pro sizes to help you get started. It is not a big outlay.

If you want to be top end .. start out top end. Products that work is what attracts clients to return to you.

thanks for all your replies and advice - i am going to go with salon system thai manicure and pedicure for now and start collecting opi nail varnishes as i go along. once i am up and running and earning a little bit i will start adding opi manicure and pedicure stuff. i think that is the best way otherwise my outlay is just running away with me!!! thanks x

Hiya, I trained with salon systems earlier this yr, the thai range is gorgeous but as for the polishes and everything else like gel, etc its absolute rubbish. I love the thai range coz the smells are yummy and clients really feel they are getting a pampering, but yeah build up your OPI polishes coz they are really good. x

I use the thai salon systems range and OPI enamels, i have a case full of 40 varnishes and people always comment how lovely they all look in the case. Its so lovely, my best purchase ever. As i dont retail at the moemnt i stock up on OPI colours at the shows when i go, that way you have a lovely collection, they are last seasons colours, but if your not retailing it doesnt matter as long as the client has a lovely colour on her hands/feet that lasts for weeks.
