It's just starting but has great potential from a networking perspective. It's based on 'socialgo' which is one of the newer web products out there. A bit of a cross between twitter/facebook and the more traditional forums like geek is based on.

the strange thing about it is it allows music, photo an video hosting but can't host files for download, so you can't post a pdf or spreadsheet with ease, you have to host it somewhere and link to it.

I'd been looking at it to host a community for sharing info on Thought Pattern Management (one of the things I do) but hadn't invested the time in it.

The software and the salontweet community look to have great potential, so I'd recommend you try it out.

Regards

Mike

I did manage to upload music on my profile and it works fine - will try and remember how I did it and let you know.

The only thing that is bugging me at the moment is the Javascript error at line 69 that keeps popping up on there... I have Javascript error reporting enabled on IE so that I can fix any ASAP if they happen to crop up on my stuff lol...

What does that mean lol??? I haven't seen error codes or is that because I am not techie lol?

Going to try load music later but now I must logg off and prepare for my meetings tomorrow. :green:! Sooo tired today though I have no energy.

It's probably because you haven't got Javascript error reporting turned on. It's usually disabled by default in most browsers - because only web developers really need to know about them - so that they can fix them. A lot of the time, pages will still work fine with some errors anyway ironically...

You know web stuff. Why do apps like socialgo allow upload of pictures etc but not standard filetypes like .doc, pdf, xls etc.

You'd think the technology to load the files is there in the code somewhere.

Similar with this site - photos fine, pdfs no.

What's that all about then ?

Probably the MIME types for those sorts of documents haven't been enabled. Then there's the issue of virus scanning any Microsoft file formats before they are available for download lol...

I already know that there is open-source Java code that can even auto-generate PDF, DOC and XLS documents on the fly from things like XML data... you'd think that the PHP equivalents would be out there somewhere too...

You'd think that. I emailed the socialgo people about a month ago and no plans to put support in :(

LOL, I guess that's why I prefer to design my own stuff in Java, so I can integrate whatever frameworks and plugins I want to... and if something doesn't exist that does what I want, then I just code it!!!

How did you know my PC is scared of Java lol! I get errors on loads of stuff! How do I fix it??

Do you mean Javascript on web pages? Which is a different kettle of fish to Java itself...

Probably go into your browser settings and turn off Javascript error reporting.

It's not your fault that you are getting the errors - it's that not everyone is that fussy about testing their Javascript on their web sites lol...

Really not sure why we are discussing problems with another forum/sn site (that sounds awfully similar to SalonGeek.com) here. If its so great, go discuss it there ;)
