Is this an ok brand to use? I need to build my kit up slowly as the really good products are very expensive. Would you happily use this brand on a paying client?
Sorry, no, I wouldn't use it on my worst enemy.
If you use poor quality stuff you'll have to work so much harder to get a decent finish, and you won't get a good reputation.
My advice? Unless you absolutely need to do makeup soon don't do it until you've stocked your kit with decent stuff.
When I started out I did PartyLite for a few months and the money I earned from that stocked my various kits!
Hi Aphrodites, I am a bridal make-up artist and have no experience of SBC. However, I am frequently in touch with other bridal mua's and I don't know of anyone using this brand of cosmetics in their kits, some of whom also do photograhic, fashion and editorial make-up. We mostly carry a range of high end and pro products, including a few items which are not necessarily high end, but still do a great job.
I fully appreciate that it is expensive to kit yourself out for make. Been there, done that and worn the T-shirt... in fact still doing it. It takes time because it is expensive, but I honestly believe that in the long term, it is better to kit yourself out with a variety of different recommended cosmetics. This way you end up with a wide range of products to suite different people.
Thanks for the advice, any tips on any decent products that dont cost the earth to get me started? After 2 clients i can stock up fully with mac, benefit, etc...
have you tried yaby ? they have tiny little eye shadows for less than £3 each, there tiny little things but very good quality... perfect for starting out x They also do little pans of foundation for a reasonable price too... and they can all be put into palettes for easy storage
