I was having a conversion with some nail tecs a few days ago and was explaining what I learnt on my Creative foundation course. the main topic of conversaion was about the prep before starting a set of nails. They said they have used Scrubfresh and have found that it makes their clients nails lift??!! As I am not experienced at all in the nail industry I had no come back to as what they were telling me. Could Scrubfresh cause lifting or is it something that they are doing wrong?

This must defo be somthing they are doing wrong, scrubfresh infact prevents lifting by removing impurities and oil from the nail bed

Thats exactly what I thought but I just don't have the experience to tell them what they could be doing wrong.

Nail enhancements will not lift if the prepared nail plate is squeeky clean and dry before enhancement product is applied.

The only way nails would lift after using ScrubFresh is if oneused too much and the nail plate was still wet/damp when they applied the product.

When people are not CND trained they do not realise that you only need to use a damp pad to scrub the nail plates (not beds).

I think scrubFresh is generally regarded as one of the absolute best nail plate preparations on the market today.

Thank you for your reply, next time I am entering into a nail debate I will have something informative and correct to come back at them with!!

Can I also ask why nails can crack through the centre of the enhancement from the tip down? And why can the natural nail come away from the acylic ehancement at the tip of the nail (it's almost like lifting tip end rather than cuticle end? it's just passed experiences of when I have had my nails done in salons before that the nail tec's were unable to answer my questions as to why my nails sometimes did the above!!
Sorry if the questions may seem alittle silly as I said before I am very new to the nail world after just having completed my Creative foundation course and am trying to learn as much as possible and practise practise practise before I take the next step.

Vertical cracking happens when pressure is applied to both sides of the nail.

Sometimes caused by applying too small a tip or a tip with the wrong c-curve for the nail (eg a high c.curve tip onto a flat nail). Sometimes if a product shrinks excessively when polymeising this can exert too much pressure and cause vertical cracking. And last but not least, sometimes clients have them in their mouths too much and give the enhancements a squeeze or two and 'crack'!!!

'Curling' of the natural nail away form the overlay is caused by incorrect maintenance. Look at the geeks article 'Curlingonysuckus' (I know ... only he could come up with a name like that but it does tell you all about it as only HE can)!!

Thank you for your help, it's brilliant!! The most frustrating thing I find while I'm learning is knowing how I want my enhancements to look but not being able to always achieve it. I suppose I am a perfectionist and I really am critical of my work and maybe a tad harsh on myself too but, I'm sure if after only 3 months of training and learning I thought I was able to go work in a salon etc I would be a fool to myself!!!

No doubt there will be a million more questions from me in the near distant future so I thank you for your help in advance.

Well, being critical and a perfectionist and not accepting work that you are not happy with are a few of the traits I would expect to see in a future great technician! :D

When I was starting I used to cut out pictures from magazines of nails that I realy liked and then tried hard to reproduce them. Often it is just a flick of the file that can change a look to the perfect nail. Finding a good mentor is also such a help in becoming a great nail artist.

My mentor was a woman called Barbars Griggs .. she used to do all the poster work for Creative in the days when there was no such thing as 'photoshop'. She worked under a large magnifying glass and her work was beautiful. I learned so many techniques from her. She always had time for me when I would see her at a Creative training ... and I was a nothing and a nobody.

She always made nails to suit the hand ... not the typical 'porn star' or cookie cutter nails that we are seeing all the time now in adds. You know the ones .... whites too long, nails too square and aggressive, extreme smile lines (which are beautiful on the right nails but really suck when done on a short length nail bed). These type of nails are done to a formula and not customized for each individual.

It is my beliefe that enhancements should enhance and beautify the hand, not take over from it and scream ... I'm false I'm false. People should be saying are they or aren't they??? That is the sign of a true nail artist.

Thanks for the advice, I did my foundation course with Liza Smith and she was brilliant, very helpful and I really enjoyed the course.

I have always been creative (I get it from my dad) and I always wanted to be a make up artist or something along those lines, but some things just don't pan out the way you want them to.... The path I took at the time lead me working for an Advertising agency, in the creative department as an assistant artbuyer, which I really enjoyed. My job was to ensure the smooth running of the photo shoots and I dealt with the models, stylists and photographers (photography is another passion of mine) and through my 4 years of working there met some very interesting and talented people.

Unfortunately I was made redundant and to keep my mortgage payments up have taken another office job to keep me going as a PA. Something good came out of being made redundant though as it gave me the kick up the bum I needed to assess my life, where I'm going and what I want to do with it.
I have been having my nails done for years now and along with the make up took an instant attraction to it, but I suppose that I lacked the confidence in thinking I would be any good at it (plus I was told by some one who works in the nail industry that at 24 I am too old to make ago of it as I'll be old and wrinkly by the time I built my clients up)!!
But 2 months ago I took the plunge and decided to go for it and after completing and passing the Creative foundation course I'm really glad I did it and I know that with hard work and determination I hope to make a great nail tec.
I don't know where I will work, or where this whole learning process will take me, I am just going to take one step at a time and will figure it out when I get there.

It’s also such a bonus to have people like yourself who have bundles of great experience taking the time out to help people like myself and point us in the right direction, I am at the moment just practising at home on friends and on my trusty nail trainer (I've had such fun scaring people with it, it's great)!!
I hope to book the next step up soon.

(Sorry for the long garbled message, didn't realise how much I'd gone on until I read it back)

Scrub fresh helps prevent lifting by dehydrating and sanitizing the nail plate...Have them check the prep steps. Sounds like you are a step a head so to speak.
