Sculpting acrylic on badly bitten nails

Please excuse me if this topic has already been covered, and if it has, please post me the link.

I wondered how people sculpted with acrylic on a badly bitten nail when you can't get a form under. I was shown the bat wing thing but I don't think that will always work.

On you tube I have watched some videos of extending the nail bed with a bead of acrylic, then popping a form under that, but i tried it and the shape was awful

Any suggestions greatly appreciated :)
 
I cut the form to fit right up to the nail, so no gaps between nail edge and form and then sculpt over, takes longer obviously but worth it.
