I've been learning acrylic nails and have just started to learn how to do sculpts, I am finding it really difficult because they keep ending up too thick! Does anyone have any tips and advice on how to stop this from happening? Did anyone else find the sculpts difficult to perfect at first??

Thanks

xx :)

Aw Hun,
When I 1st started our educator called our early attempts "Heffa Lumpas". Anyone who trained at NSI Manchester will know who it was.
It looks so easy until you start to do them, I was so shocked on my 1st day, I would not have gone back only I had laid out all that money for a private course.........some didn't come back at all.
Practice, practice and more practice, I still don't get them right everytime.
So don't be too hard on yourself, we all have to start somewhere. I would not believe anyone who said they could do perfect nails from the 1st day.
Chin up, let us know how you progress.
Lotsa luv x

Use less product....try working with smaller beads.

Hi, im not sure whether you mean they are too thick when you have just made a new set, or when its time for an infill / re-white they are thick after this?

You just need to practice creating them fairly thin to start with by using less product on your brush, and when its time for an infill, make sure you are filing enough product off before putting new product on. This is where i made the mistake when I first started out, I thought "why do i need to file much off, just putting it on top is ok." But they where too thick because I was trying to save some time by not filling hardly any product off!!!!

let me know how u get on?!

Hi i just finished my day 3 and 4 at nsi. I was exactly the same and they are still not great but alot better just practice. You have to watch your beads. Keep your chin up don't give up it will be worth it in the end xxx

very important is to hold your brush at the right angle... it saves you a lot of filing afterwords
remember... sculpting is done with your brush and not with your file :green:

I hated sculpting up until 3 weeks ago when I done my
creative conversion course with liza and she went through sculpting
with me and now i'm loving it.
I layer the acrylic so a thin layer first then add layers until I am happy
with the thickness of the free edge.
try giving that ago works for me.

Absolutely, brush angles are so important!!

It is also important not to be so hard on yourself at first when sculpting, give yourself time to perfect your techniques, and eventually everything will come together.
