hi im only just starting to use the l&p but im much better at sculpture than t&o would i beable to just offer this as a service or do i need to do t&o aswell??

i find i always have a join where the tip is, have i not enough product on?

i have only dont two sets so maybe being a bit hard but im impatient.

When I did my NSI foundation we were tought sculpting before tip and overlay and I loved sculpting so much and found tip blending a nightmare. Now I have well less tips I feel a lot better about tip and overlay and tend to shy away from sculpting. I am currently trying to overcome this phobia as I think you need to be able to customise your service to suit your clients natural nail shape.

When I was doing models for my portfolio I had a lady who had completely flat nail plates, she had no c curve what so ever. So I did a set of sculpts and naturally ended up with a very flat free edge. I have since learned that tip and overlay would be better for people with flat nail beds and this tought me that I need to make sure I can customise what I do to suit each client individually.

So.. lots of waffle but basically, yes, I think it is good to be able to do both regardless of which you use most as it should be driven by your client and not by what you prefer to do. :)

thank you i guess that all makes sense, i will have to practice loads.

Give yourself a chance, its early days for you if you have only done 2 sets and you will get better. I personally think that you will benefit from both sculpting and tip & overlay. What kind of tips do you use?

im using some opi ones i got with my hand trainer.
but i do have some cnd ones but didnt want to waste them lol i know sounds silly now i said it out loud.:o

im a bit under the weather at mo and half term + halloween sweets kids are going crazy so i will get back to it monday.

i will keep at both and i know its an art that i must master. :)

IMO you need to be able to do both to be a well-rounded and competant nail tech. You will come across nails that are really hard to sculpt and those that lend themselves to it....... I believe in making my life easy so like to be able to do whichever is easier for the nails I have in front of me.

It's such early days for you please don't write anything off now . Tipping is a skill as is sculpting and you can't expect to be great instantly! Keep at it and you'll get there.......

Hi I am the opposite to you.... i HATE sculpting..... hate it hate it.. I can't even get the form right.. I always end up with a gap between the nail free edge and the form.. then it ends up with a ridge/lump under neath..
They only scults i have done a full set on are the ones i did to pass my course.. other than on mine to practise.. they scare the hell out of me.
I stick to my CND permormance clear tips and adjust them to suit..
I know i should try and get the hang of it....
I am attending a Hawley Illume night on wednesday and then a CND trainign night on monday the 10th nov so i will bring it up!

take care and don't be to hard on your self.. we are all learnign and will always be learning.

when i first started in this biz i was totally t/o, i was terrified of sculpt, but now i offer sculpt as the main, BUT you have to go with the canvass you are supplied with. BUT you (IMO) have to be able to do both, as not all clients are suitable to sculpts or t/o. i actually had a client in on thursday, and had to use tips (shock horror for me) but sculpts wouldnt have been suitable for her. you are new flower, so you will learn, learn and learn as we all did, you will get there, so dont stress over it flower

you guys have all been fab and have given me the boost i need so im going to stick at both.

i think i like instant results so with the sculpt i find that easy to do. but with the tip it seems to take me ages to pre blend and i never seem to get it right but im learning and patience is coming.
