Im wanting to learn how to sew a shirt....been looking for videos ...but cant seem to find any....do you know of any websites that explain how to make a shirt..perhaps a video? Thanks in advance any advice would be appreciated:)

Well you will need a pattern to start with. Most large department stores will have fabric departments with pattern books to look through.

The ladies there will advise you on the amount of fabric, interfacing, buttons, cotton, pins, scissors, etc that you will need.

If you have never sewn before you will be better getting a plain fabric rather than patterned.

The patterns come with instructions on how to lay out the fabric and your pattern.

Oh and you will need a sewing machine unless you are very, very good at doing very very tiny stitching.

I do not know if there is a website for this, but there must be one somewhere, so keep looking, and good luck.

Some colleges do evening classes in basic sewing, it may be worth checking your local one.

My mum used to teach O and A level textiles and she said that making a shirt was one of the most difficult things to do. Could you not start with something more basic?

I would describe myself as a pretty advanced needlewoman and I agree with Sassy's Mum, shirts are very difficult.

I learned to sew at school but it was many years before I attempted a shirt.

Does your area have any adult education classes ?

My mum is a very advanced designer and seamstress (she made my wedding dress), and she says that shirt making is one of the most difficult things to do, even she shirks away from things like this that are usually the job of a tailor. If you really want to make one could you see if a local college runs a course so you could learn hands on???
