Hello
I have had Shellac since the launch and LOVE it
My customers love it too
BUT
One lady has it regulaly every 10 days 'cos hates any re growth she called to say it had chipped !!!!! when I got there and removed the Shellac her 2 nails had peeled underneath so I sorted them and re applied
I have said to put solor oil on. She thinks her nails feel weak.
Another lady had french shellac for 3 weeks and adored it but she said you can see where it has been(where the re growth was) and that has put her off
3rd lady having said her nails have never been better after 2 Shellackings now sais Its ruined my nails ! I sent her on holiday with a bottle of toughen up and solor oil
Has any one else had these comments???
thanks in advance

ONE lady's nails are chipping HER NAILS are peeling/chipping and she thinks it is to do with the product? Please.

Another lady doesn't like to see the regrowth? Well who does? Would the growth be any different with Polish? or enhancements? NO.

Shellac ruins no one's nails. Did you see her nails?? Were they ruined ???

I have not had any comments apart from some saying how much their nails have grown with Shellac and isn't it a shame we can't stop them growing so you can't see it?? lol I say the same to my hairdresser about my roots!! I wish my hair wouldn't grow so it wouldn't cost me so much to have it done every 4 weeks ... Maybe they are looking for excuses not to pay??

For what it is worth, I have been Shellacking my nails for 6 months (apart from 2 weeks when I tried another product to compare) and they have never been in better condition.

Your clients are making excuses .. what their motive is I can't say but usually it's money. Just deal with it as I'm sure you know that the product is not damaging in any way at all  and regrowth is something that happens .. laugh about it. Peeling of the natural nail happens sometimes .. that's life.

Thank you Gigi
I did take a bit of offence when one lady said Its ruined my nails!!!!
It is so easy to blame a product isn't it.

The one that said she could see where it had been removed it herself, maybe she filed her nails I don't know, she just said there is a mark where the shellac had been ???

The peeling nails lady
I did tell peoples nails peel, put plenty of oil on. She LOVES Shellac more than any one in the world and is my best customer so really need to make sure she doesn't think its Shellacs fault.

Do you think because she doesn't wait 2 weeks all the acetone removal is having an effect??

Actually,no I don't. A 10 minute soak in Acetone will not have a bad affect on a normal client's nails. It's hard to say without knowing the woman's history.
Did she wear enhanced nails and then go on to natural nails and Shellac?
What is the lady's age?
How long has this lady been a client?
Is she using SolarOil every day with Shellac as advised?
Few questions to start you off

I second geeg's reply, I have never ever had natural nails with a free edge in over 10 yrs, however since shellac I have soaked enhancments off and been using shellac and my nails are in fantastic condition as I am looking after them.

Dont forget that shellac is not indestructable if clients are hard on their nails and not looking after them they will ofcourse chip, or break their nails. I can't stress enough the benefits of solar oil to clients whom have shellac regularly as I would enhancment clients, it conditions the natural nail even with polish, shellac, enhancments on, daily use regularly will help. I try and kinda say if you go to dentist once every 6 months have check up but you have to brush teetch twice day to maintain good oral health otherwise you end up with problems,, unfortunatley its the same with nails clients have to look after their nails themselves aswell as their technician.

when re-shellacing I always remove one hand and rub little solar oil in and whilst im removing other hand its kinda giving nails a little drink haha so to speak, then do other hand.

have you seen the clients nails as the discolourataion or mark could be where the natural nail in the regrowth area has discoloured from maybe self tan or some cooking ingredients or cleaning products can discolour the nail plate and where the product has been it has protected her nails from this

Have seen a mark in my own nails and some clients nails when I remove. Nothing to do with Shellac. It's the acetone.

The acetone in the wraps have been sitting on the natural nail regrowth for 10 minutes and dehydrated them. You can clearly see where the Shellac has been as the nail there is not so dehydrated as the acetone has been breaking down the Shellac. Rub in a bit of solar oil and it disappears. Maybe that's the mark your client is seeing.

With regards to peeling, I always tell clients if they have peeling nails they will still peel taking the Shellac with them. It might take 2 Shellac applications to grow that out. I find explaining this and that Shellac is not indestructible manages their expectations. Most clients have no problems.

Thanksyou everyone
I think the over whelming thing here is that these ladies are not using solor oil enough even thought I gave them all a bottle and advised daily use.
One removed her Shellac herself and I bet she didn't oil I am gonna email her now and advise that.
Great tip about a drop of solor oil when removing , shall definately do that from now on too.
Like the thought on the dentist check up gonna use that line
thanks salon geek:Grope:

If the client that removed it herself didn't give it enough time, then the last remains of the basecoat will show up as a mark too, and actually it will look like it ruined the nails too... Maybe that is the issue???

I like the dentist analogy...will use that myself. One question though....if you are applying solar oil on removal of Shellac, you would have to remove it again as part of the prep for reapplying new Shellac, yes?

Just ScrubFresh before application and that will remove enough of the Solar Oil.

Solar Oil is not a heavy sticky oil it is light botanical oils .. it PENETRATES and moisturizes. Don't be afraid to use it before during and after Shellac treatments.

Really not quite sure why some of us are having problems with Shellac and some, like myself, are having none.

I have never had a problem with Shellac, the one that does have a problem are clients who already have problems with their nails in the first place. So effectively, the problem is THEIR problem and not a SHELLAC problem.

Like already mentioned, if the nails are weak and peel, Shellac will not make it not peel. The 'shellac peeling' is really just a a case of the nail peeling and the Shellac coming off with it.

I must say my lady had neat short nails when I first Shellacked her. they have grown like mad and she has been super happy.
It was only the last lot I put on,the nails peeled on 2 fingers 3 days later.
She had said they felt a bit odd before I applied it, a bit weak, anyway different to normal .
I said lets keep them a neat leghth and re did
I spoke to her today and they were all fine, phew
She has never had enhancements was just fed up with normal enamel not lasting.
She doesn't do loads of cleaning and isn't tough on her nails???
Its probably just one of those things but I had 3 clients on the trot accuse me and Shellac so felt a bit worried:eek:
very re assuring to read the threads
Thanks again

sounds like she is used to having her nails short and neat and got carried away with the growth and they got too long and were probably getting too much trauma to the free edges. I have done this myself.

My nails grow and grow with Shellac protecting them and on occasion I PUSH it too far .. you know how you do!! lol You think WOW my natural nails have never been this long!! Most times I file my natural nails every 3 - 4 days to keep the length constant but it is tempting when they never break to push it a bit too far as they look so gorgeous. but then you feel yourself catching them and I know I've got to file. It has been 6 months and I have not broken a nail in all that time whilst wearing Shellac.

Shellac really does add an extra firmness and stability that I would never have without it on my natural nails, yet it still stays flexible; quite extraordinary really when you consider how thin it is and how it goes on like polish. Amazing product.
