I was really shocked to discover that Argos are selling DIY nail kits, they are selling UV gel kits also.... surely this cannot be safe for just anybody off the streets to go and buy and do their own nails.... or even anybody else's!!!!!

So, obviously they mustn't be a professional supplier .... if they are, call them up and let them know you will no longer use them, due to the fact they supply kits/products to the public.

It's quite clandestine, but I have questioned a few el'cheapo suppliers here and found they get their supplies from some reputable suppliers, they just do it though the back door.

Really?????
i have never noticed them before .....sorry if i'm bringing up an old subject:smack:.
i probably never noticed as never looked for this sort of thing before as only been doing it for a couple of months......but now i know the impliations of this sort of thing through my training....i should be greatful as not everyone who looks in these catalogues will.:)

they are actually 2 of the largest high st/ shopping centre retail stores in this country....most towns/ cities have one!!

The public buy them because they think its easy, and then of course they realise in aint. ANyway, half the time the stuff doesn't work. Four of my clients are guilty of buying the gel kit and then the gel wouldn't cure, and argos wouldn't accept it back because it had been opened. Its like anything though, you get what you pay for.

I really don't have a problem with this. They arn't going to kill you are they. They just arn't going to look very good or last long. I shouldn't think they are strong enough to last long enough to get any infections.

Of course people should leave their enhancements to professionals and im sure once they have used these they will realise that thats exactly what they should be doing, because its not easy, especially with inferior products.

We all diy things in our everyday lives that we possibly shouldn't,how many of us dye our own hair, tint our own lashes, wax our own legs etc etc. There are home kits for everything and if someone wants to do something on themselves then thats entirely up to the individual.

If you look rio have a range of home treatment packs from nails to laser treatment,
they were at gmex too, but only for the first day,
so many people laughed at them and complained that they were not there the second day.
Don't let it worry you hun, they are money making scams that do not work, my oh bought me the gel kit for Xmas a few year ago (the idiot) and i think i have more of an idea how to do nails than the general public so for the laugh and to see how well it worked i did my self a set, they lasted 3hrs before i had broke 2 and i hardly ever break my nails so that goes to show the quality of rio nail kits lol

I have bought the rio foil kit and the rio silk wrap. the foil kit is quite good and the silk wrap is great if you want to quickly repair a natural nail, I bought these before I became a nail tech, I have never bought or used the acrylic or gel kits though. Also these have been in argos for a few years now, so it's not a new thing they are doing.

I dont know if im right in saying, but im sure i see in the recent catolgue there selling an electric drill too...i couldnt believe that!!!

Why so shocked? It's supply and demand...... they'd sell babies if they could get away with it.

I think Boots have been selling electric manicure kits for years.

I removed the links from the original post and the quoted posts afterwards, we don't want to give them anymore business do we? :wink2:

I don't think that Argos will ever stop selling those kits, people eventually realise that they're DIY nails don't look anywhere as good as those done by the professionals and they also wake up to the harsh reality that it isn't as easy as we make it look.

Yeah, ive just had a look...its a rio one...supprise supprise! Along with them little low speed things that cut out as soon as you touch the nail with it (i got given two of these a couple of xmas's ago. they got taken out the box, used once on 1 tip and chucked back in the box.)

I dont feel threatened by them, i've had a few clients try them, and they've always come back to me to sort out the mess.

i also work in argos as well as doing the nails and you will be pleased to know that we sell literally hardly any of these kits people realise how rubbish they are the nail art one is quite popular tho!!

Look on the bright side. These kits could make you money. Once they have been bought and they screw up their own nails, where they going to go to get them fixed? YOU!!! So i would see them as free advertising. :D

In my humble little oppinion, LET THEM, buy these "home" kits. General public will only appreciate us more!!!! when all said an done. Its taken some of us years to get our enhancements perfected, let them find out how specialised it is,,, will only enhance us in the end!!!

i think that nail art side of things is fine but is was jut really surprised to see the other kits....glad they are not popular in one sense but also i suppose you could take it as free advertising if they are that bad quality, then they may well come to you .:)

thanks for your comments geeks....you have opened my eyes a little i'll tell you:eek:

early new years res.....'dont be so nieve'!!!!!
(hope i have spelt that right?!)
