Hi All

Hoping to get some advice and thoughts. I currently run my own beauty salon and stock Dermalogica we mainly do facials hardly any body treatments. I am now taking on another room within a hotel which offers more spa treatments.

They currently use Collin products and apparently they are doing quite well with them. I personally feel Dermalogica wouldn't be suitable for the spa treatments and am thinking of taking on Collin prodcuts which would mean forking out quite alot of money as the lady working there only rents the room out so its her own account, meaning i need to start from scratch.

What are your thoughts and what do you think would be my best option. Also can anyone recommend any other suitable brands. I am not wanting to take on a very expensive brand something quite affordable.

Thanks in advance x

Hey, i cant see why dermalogica wouldnt continue working for you, its a very reputable company and people love it! i personally feel that if you think its best to switch to another company, differentiate yourself from the other lady and use a different brand, otherwise where is the variety? And what will make people want to go to you instead of the other therapist? i use eve taylor, their products smell gorgeous and leaves your clients skin looking great too! They have a range of products for different skin types. And best of all there is no minimum order amount, and free delivery of orders over £100. I cant recommend the stuff enough, good luck! x

I agree, a different brand will set you apart from the other therapist and provide a wider variety of choice for the clients.

I use and love Thalgo and cannot recommend it enough and it is very Spa-orientated.

Hope it goes well for you!

I agree with christine.t, I would use a different brand to the other therapist, if you are both self employed you will be fighting for same clients, maybe offer Dermalogica, as you already have had the training and know the brand and perhaps a more holistic range such as eve taylor or similar.

Just to let you know the other therapist won't be there just me. So hopefully some of the clients will continue to come and thats why i'm not sure about changing the brand.

I think a new take over calls for a new brand to inspire clients again. Otherwise it will seem like you've just stepped into her shoes whereas it would interest me more as a client to think there have been improvements and a new skincare line would suggest that. Don't worry about what was have confidence in what you can make it.

You could always take on a body line I'm not sure what is best as I use Gerards for both the opening order may be too high for what you want but I've seen lots of posts on Pure Fiji body treatments. Just did a bit of research and the salon that is connected to Pure Fiji actually uses Dermalogica and Collin too! How random http://www.glitteratibeauty.co.uk/

I would stick with Dermologica. It is what you know and are comfortable with. There is no need to go along with what anyone else has chosen. :)

i personally would not get involved with collin - they are only a uk distributor who buy from collin in paris they have just been bought out by Nuxe and you will find the profit alot less than Dermalogica. If you do a salon geek search on collin you will see they are a good product but their pressure on you to buy and customer service is terrible - I am just about to stop using them after 4 and a half years. Also we have had alot of clients who havent heard or Collin -you could be using avon for all they know! Why dont you turn your dermalogica into spa treatments - add half an hour and include a back massage or mini indian head or something. I would stick with Dermalogica - they are better known and alot more proffesional!

Thanks for that website! It has some great ideas.

Thanks for your help guys. I think i will continue to stick with Dermalogica for the time being. It will save me £2500 plus it will be a new brand and something different, and i have alot more experience with it.

Go with the GM Collins it's can't touch Dermologica for results. I use to carry Dermologica and the only good thing I can say about it is you can use it on anybody. Unfortunately you see little to no results when using Dermologica - unfortunately you clients don't see anything either. GM Collins is superb and well worth the Money, I think their opening order is $5,000 these days. Might I suggest Only YourX it's a great line and one of the 4 I carry. Hands down GM Collins Bota-Peptide can't be beat - if I could only order $500 of that in the 1.7 size I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Sorry got off subject. You will be much better off going with Collins

I must say Im a bit perplexed by your comments about seeing little or no results with Dermalogica. Did you not have any training in the products ? I can't believe you or your clients had such poor results unless you were using the products incorrectly ?

Perhaps Dermalogica are one of the biggest ranges in the industry on marketing alone :lol:

I use Collin having been a customer using Dermalogica before I became a therapist. Personally Collin are head and shoulders above Dermalogica in terms of quality and results. I noticed an immediate difference. Collin would fit very well into a hotel/spa environment - as it does already. It has an exclusivity that Dermalogica doesn't have as it is salon only. You cannot buy it on the internet (ebay) as Collin tracks down the ads and has them removed. I believe that Dermalogica is going to be sold in Selfridges soon and is readily available on ebay.

Customer service wise, I haven't had any problems, although their lack of advertising is very frustrating. Joe Public have all heard of Dermalogica but very few Collin. I mention this every time to my rep but Collin stead fastly refuses to advertise commercially. Their repackaging and renaming of products at the moment is a right pain.

I would say if you haven't seen their rep do so as I am sure that you would be impressed. I am only a very small concern so my spend - although I reached the £1,000 target for last year - I am not sure that I can sustain that, and I agree with JuliaJulia that there is a bit of pressure on you to buy which I have so far managed to ignore.

Could you not speak to this lady and negotiate something with her? The Collin training course is a week long. Speak to Collin and see what packages they are offering. They might offer the small business start up to you which when I joined you could spread the cost over three months or so. Investigate further before you make your final decision. Have you checked out what other hotels and spas are using?

Good luck.

Had EXTENSIVE training in Dermalogica- first thing I trained in, then was trained in numerous others.

My opinion stands it's not that great - Oil or Olay (which anyone can buy) provides the same results.

You have got it right DERMOLOGICA has one of the best marketing scheems I have ever seen - they go for the students in Esthetics Schools. If you own a school here in the U.S. it is absolutely wonderful to go with Dermologica as they have the BEST price going and you can use the products on anybody!

Yes it is frustrating (G.M. Collins) and they QUIT doing trade shows (I think about 3 years ago) they do have training in the U.S.! DecLeor doesn't do trade shows in the U.S. either. But they do have training here thank heavens it's in Orlando as opposed to Collins which is like 1,500 miles from me!
