Anyone got any advise for me as I have recently purchased a kit for Sienna X at the trade show in Manchester and attend my training on 3rd Nov just that the kit is slightly different to the one I was looking at on the web site but still a bargain -

There is no mitt included - do I need one?
No barrier cream - can I use a good moisturizer instead?
No ex foliating spritz - do i need it?

As if I need any of the above I will get them before the training.

Thanks Guys. X

you can buy them seperatley, or just give them a ring and if it was meant to be in the kit they will send you them.

but in answer to your questions, im not sure what the mitt is for, they wil prb go thru that in your training. barrier cream, yeah you can use any rich cream, oil based preferrably. but as long as you are careful spraying you dont need it. i have never used it. exfooliating spritz is in case a client hasnt prepped, but its unlikely.

I have all 3 of those items in my kit but would definitely say you don't need them!

The mitt is used to gently pat any area if you have got beading from over spray but tbh it can make more of a mess than if you just let the area dry and it's not generally a problem when you have got used to spraying.

I used to use the barrier cream but still have a lot left and prefer to use a lighter body lotion instead like a cocoa butter one and have had better results with this method. The barrier cream is a bit too rich and can make the hands & feet patchy if the client applies too much or does not rub it in really well.

The exfoliator spray is used like Katelisa says - colud be useful if you ever had walk in clients who fancied a tan on the off chance but otherwise totally unneccesary. (I have used it to remove deodorant but it is easier to use baby wipes tbh). Hth.

the answer to your question is yes, you do need a barrier cream and we recommend using a water based one as this lets some of the tan through so as to not leave white patches, never use vasaline!.

a buffing mitt is to take off any excess product from either over application or the fact that your client may have some oil on their skin and the tan is beading and sitting on top of it.

the exfoliating spritz is if you have a walk in client or someone who has forgotten to do their prepping at home, it nutralises the ph of the skin and removes any surface oil, never use a lemon juice and water mix (sticky, sticky, sticky). please remember though that nothing is as good as doing a full body scrub at home in the shower.

We will cover all of that in your training and give you the opportunity to buy other items on the day. Show kits are basic but that is why you get such a good deal, we do those kits to get your spray tan business up and running.

why would you put barrier cream where you want the skin to tan anyway?!
do you mean for knees and elbows? i never bother doing this, theres no need, i just spray lighter.

but for palms of hands and soles of feet, if using barrier cream, you want one that will completely block the tanning solution out, right?!

i use a much thicker layer for palms of hands and blend upwards over the wrists and on the inside of the arms, the thicker the layer the more of a barrier, by the time you blend up the wrists there is only a minimal amount of barrier cream left so the effect isnt as severe. if you use a very thin layer it will allow a small amount of tan through.

hi guys i own a spray tan shop and i average abt 40 + clients per week (thats a conservative estamaite) the only place to put barrier cream is where you dont wont tan to go,any thick cream will do i use asda baby lotions for palms of hands(but oil based products are a great barrier, baby oil actually removes tanning solution),no matter what system u use compresser or hvlp there will always be overspray, exfolation wipes just b4 tan are a waste of u money, walk ins as prepaired clients will most always have deodrant on,not a problem honestly, when the alchol in the colour guide comes into contact with the alchol in perfumes, deodrant hairspray etc it would spray green,BUT THIS IS ONLY THE COLOUR GUIDE IT WASHES OFF !THE TAN WILL BE FINE.dont waste u money on anything other than a good system inc, extracter unit, you can not spray without one,and the most important solution x

Have to agree, I dont use a mitt, barrier cream or prep spray :green:

you can make your own prep spray if you feel you need to carry one -

1/4 lemon juice and 3/4 water in a spray bottle

spray client and buff skin with a large towel

that works a treat!

i use nivea cream in a tub as a barrier cream, i apply to the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet them wipe away with a baby wipe when i'm done

Thanks for all the above replies.
I know I shouldn't have but I couldn't resist a little go on my oh and although it was shocking at first (his colour as we haven't had a hol this year and I am sure you agree the weather hasn't been good to us ) when he showered the next day it looked pretty good but admittedly he did have some problem areas underarm fold, wrists & knees but I know this is down to technique. He is warm skinned so wanted the 10% I used a normal moisturizer on the soles of his feet & palms but in my impatience forgot the other areas . He showers twice a day (as he is a gym freak) and 4 days later still has a noticeable but not fake looking tan.
I am so far impressed with sienna solution but will have to be patient and wait till my training as I dont want to form bad habits. I have 6 clients booked in already .
