So I'm highly allergic to acrylic (I know but I wasn't until about 3 yrs ago way after I got out of school) I did a silk nail for the first time in yrs the other day and the way I did it and it came out good I had to paint it cause It didn't look like glass was : tip brush on glue silk silk brush on glue and silk brush on glue and then buff thats the way we were taught at my school you could never wear them like that with out paint but the end product was very strong and beautiful. Now to my question above all what is this activator everyone is talking about and for someone with an allergy to acrylic and gel would this activator be a problem for me? Thanks for your help!

Hiya, the activator just speeds up the drying time, you just spray it on lightly over the nails once you ahve put the resin on, you only need a little amount and needs to be sprayed far away as can burn the skin and nails, hope this helps!

hmm now what activator seems to work the best? and why would there be buring whats in it that cause that?

The burning is where the molecules are fusing together to harden - like you sometimes get a heat spike from gel when you stick it under the lamp. Same thing.

Rather than a spray activator you could try one that you brush on instead but you'll need a bottle of brush saver too so that you can swap brushes to prevent them getting clogged.

This is the method i use and i can wear them without having to put on nail polish because you can't see the silk:

Resin
Tip
Resin
Silk - over whole nail and thin strip across the stress area (for strength)
Resin to saturate silk
Resin
activate
Gel resin (for extra strength and to create shape)
Activate using brush on activator.
File/Buff & Finish

I've done alot of experimenting with resins and activators mixing brands - sometimes it works and other times it doesn't so your best bet is to use the activator made for the resin that you are using. I use Millenium and have never had any probs with it.
Hope that is of some help to you.xx

now the resin is the glue right?

yes, that's right
