Ok, so I must be the only geek who doesn't know this  but I don't have anyone else I can ask so here goes...Do you dispose of the leftover monomer after you've finished a set of nails or can you use it for a second set? I know I sound really thick, but on my nail trainer I have used it for more than one set but I'm guessing you shouldn't do that when doing real nails, only I don't want to waste the stuff!! Sorry for asking a stupid question.

You should always dispose of used monomer after each client, soak it up in some kitchen paper, I have also heard to wrap in foil, not sure if this is strictly so and then throw away in a metal bin with a lid.

The monomer will always have some particles in it regardless of how careful you have been plus I think there would also be health and safety issues as well as possible service breakdown.

Hope that helps

Thanks hun, I figured as much. Just seems a waste.

It IS a waste so don't waste it!! Use small amounts at a time when doing a client so that none is left over. That way the monomer stays clean and you can just keep going all day with clients using a small amount at a time.

I never throw away monomer and never have to start afresh with each client as the monomer always is fresh as I replenish it regularly.

This is true if working in someones home but in a salon situation it is not necessary to wrap paper towels in foil if you have a covered metal bin and empty it a couple of times per day to minimise odour. The foil is only to minimise odour.

Waste is the issue here as Geeg has said.

There is no H&S issue. No pathogen will survive in monomer liquid which is one of the reasons it is the best way to clean a brush.

The powder that can collect in the bottom will result in service breakdown though. (ooo the thinks I used to do 20 years ago before I knew the facts!!!)

i have 2 ezflow dappen dishes with the cork lids. i have one which i use for glitter and one for pink and whites and clear. i never throw away any monomer unless i really have to ....which is not very often.

I dispense the right amount per client and clean out my dish before the next client, there is very little waste.

You can even put excess in a separate bottle and use this just for cleaning brushes.

Nappy bags are good for keeping the strong smell at bay lol x

If you dispense just the right amount, surely by the last nail there won't be enough to cover the brush when you dip, so how can you get a good bead with no air bubbles?

You don't have to "burp" the brush every time. It's like when you need a small bead and only dip the flags, not the whole brush. So if you have the right amount the brush can still "suck" the last of the monomer and produce a perfect bead (it takes practice, but I'm nearly there, as I hate wasting monomer LOL)

I see! Thanks.
