This is all new to me but I believe this forum is the best thing ever. Do any of you have more info on the skin lesion Solar Elastosis? I have tried to google it but nothing interesting pops up. It is probably the most seen lesion on our more mature clients but we know so little about it...

I think its solar keratosis try googling that.I had one on my hairline also known as senile keratosis and can be like malignant melanoma itchy scaly but easily burnt off with liquid nitrogen which mine was.

I ought to clarify i meant like malignant melanoma sometimes in appearance so need to be checked out. They themselves are generally harmless although they have the potential to become the lesser form of skin cancer as they are abnormal cells.

Thanks so much but I have recognised the solar keratosis before...Solar elastosis shows visible evidence of elastin loss...the elastin bands tend to "snap" and coil up into little balls...almost like little white spots on the clients' decollete...or this is the only info I could gather on the lesion. I have no idea if you will be able to treat it or the exact manner in which this damage takes place...

Ah right.I just googled that and it comes up as basically very sun damaged skin deep furrowed wrinkles etc that ol;d leather look .
That really bad sun damage is usually only really treated effectively with skin peels dermabrasion etc,

basically sun damage. (Solar - meaning sun). Very, very common. Sunbeds will also cause these lesions. They are harmless but can be effectively treated with medical grade peels/laser etc.

Which type of peel would be suitable for this lesion? What effect will this type of peel have on the elastin that was damaged? Am I correct if I say that elastin will only be produced by the fibroblasts up untill your mid twenties? If you look at a sun damaged skin, what are those little white 'balls' which almost looks like permanent goose bumps on the sun exposed area with the diffused redness surrounding it?

I apologise for all the questions but I tend to become too technical at times...
