Morning Ladies & Gentlemen

As I am now counting the days until I leave my office job and start my training, I'm starting to think about setting up Trinity Nails as a proper small business - can anyone suggest a good source of information on how to go about this?

I believe I need an accountant? :?
Do I need to register with Companies House even though I'm only a small business? :?
I plan to use my pay off money to start my business so I don't need a loan, but can I still open a Business Banking account? :?

Or am I jumping the gun and putting the cart before the horse??

Any info would be appreciated.... :D

Thanks

Firstly; do a search because I had this query last month. And it is quite a common one on here.

Secondly; an accountant is always a good start but check around for prices as some try to rip you off.

Thirdly; contact your local 'Business Link'. Direct Enquiries should be able to give you the number, or even your local job centre. They will send you information of business seminars that will help. And also arrange a meeting with you to discuss any queries you might have.

I think that is all, and then you will know where to go from there, but if you have anymore queries then you can PM me. I am doing the same at the moment and we might be able to help each other.

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply BN03 - I did do a search but couldn't find anything about accountants and such like, or I ended up with 800 post to trawl through

Good luck with your new venture - I will take up your offer to PM you thanks :D

this helped me :)

Thanks Mandi - I discovered their site today and they've been fab!

I've been in touch with Sussex Enterprise who offer 3 days courses on how to set up your small business for £50 for all 3 days - Bargain!!

I've got an appointment with a local Accountants who specialise in small business and who have offered me a free 1 hour consultancy meeting to discuss what I might need from them and what they can offer etc.

It's all going rather well :D

Thanks again

Tina

Be careful you don't sign anything in that hour that might tie you in. I had a meeting with an accountant and when I decided not to go with him he tryed billing me £100 for that hour! Needless to say I told him I wasn't paying it and funnily enough I haven't heard from him since! :D

I'll remember not to get carried away in the moment and sign anything!

Fortunately in my current job I deal with lots of suppliers and sales people so I'm not scared to tell them no  - but it took me a while to build up the self-confidence and not be scared and bullied into taking/buying things I didn't want! :D
