Hi all,
ive read and watched how to do a good smile line and practiced until the cows have come home but i still cnt do it! its so frustrating! i done one last night which was my best one so far showed the other half and he sed thts awful!!! has anyone got any advice for me plz? xxx

Also, watch the smile lines and custom blend video from CND. You can watch them at cnd.com or I believe they are also on you tube.

Watching these videos, I realized where I was going wrong.

HTH and best of luck! :)

I read a thead on here (quite a big one) a couple of weeks ago about this and I think it war marioned that said to get a load of cheap clear tips and just sit doing smile lines on them.

Draw three dots outlining your smile line on the back of your tip and place your bead beneath the one in the middle and then take your white upto each dot then swipe your smile in after. It really works.

I'm sat here with a big bag of 500 tip from *bay and I don't need to do the dots anymore... I can imagine where they are and my smiles are getting a little deeper and clearer bit by bit.

I used to have the same problem that you do and I tried something totally different and it works well for me.

I start by doing the pink on the nail bed first. This gives me the opportunity to round out my smile line beautifully and then just butt up the white to it. I always end up with really crisp white smile lines.

Hope this helps!

Correct ratio is king! practice picking up different sized balls, place then on a plastic sheet and see how they set are they too wet, too dry or just right? If they are just right you should have enough time to work into a smile and make sure zone1 is smooth.

Ratio was always a problem with me and really can make or break yor smiles

Hi Honey

Some people find if they try the reverse application that they can produce perfect smile lines very esay. Why not have a wee look at Greg Salo CEO of Young nails in action.

Hi Louise !!
I am having the same problem as you, my smiles just aren't as crisp as I want them and have watched all the videos and tutorials, my educator said to try the dots on the tips and I have read gigi's book too ...I think the key is to just keep trying. You said the last ones you did where better mine were too, all we can do is keep trying I think it will come with time.xx I hope!!!

I'm in exactly the same position at the mo trying like mad to get every smile line right. I seem to get the hang of them, and then do one really crap and end up starting all over again :irked: I've watched the video on cnd.com and it is marvellous - but when I try to 'copy' it ends up as a disaster. I'm going to buy some cheapo tips to practise with as I've been using the CND ones and I want to keep those for 'best' :green:

Hi Gilly, do you tip and blend onto the nails trainer or do you just practice this method straight onto the tips, like by using blue tac or a pin attached? iykwim i hope i explained myself well. :)

Hi... don't use my nail trainer much anymore to be honest. Plus, if I'm just practicing smiles then don't want to waste time blending tips. I used to put them on blue tac and on orange stick etc., but now I just pick up a tip and get on with it. I hold it over the side of my pointy finger and hold it in place with my thumb across the top of it iykwim.

I also practice my smile lines for sculpting by wrapping a piece of form paper around the handle of a brush, and sticking it down. then sculpt away again. Only really practicing smile line and bringing up the sidewalls when I do this. hth

Yes ikwym with the pointy finger, great little tip and the sculpting tip is ace thanks! I've not tried sculpting yet but forms are defo on my shopping list! :)

That is exactly what Denise taught us today! Draw 3 dots and push the white bead into a triangle at each side and then smooth in the smile line on each side. She also taught us a neat trick with filing too using a red sharpie pen - amazing once you visualize something how it makes life easier!

This may not help but I just wanted to say I have soooo been there as has everyone else I assume. I honestly felt it was me but it wasn't I just needed to practice and try out different ways of creating the smile, I found watching others A LOT helped me. Keep going and you will get there I promise. Great to hear you are getting results with the reverse application though!! x

Hi Marrioned's is a great trick with cheap tips then after a while you get used to doing the lines without putting the dots on, then the rest is to learn how to do them on an actual hand so in comes Florence and I am doing the reverse method on one hand and one hand the normal way will spend the day tomorrow doing as many as possible will take pictures and post them let me know which you think are the best and how you think they where do either reverse method or normal IYKWIM :)

Try attatching a form to a polish bottle handle and sculpt the handle creates a good barrel and it is easily removed
