I have a new client who has came to me from another salon. I want to give her the nails she always had but im confused what she has on them and she really cant describe to me well at all.

They lasted 6 weeks with no chipping on her white tip. She first said she had gel overlays, so thats fine, i can do that. But then she said her therapist wipes it off with cotton wool and remover?? i said that cant be gel then. She paid hardly anything over the price of the pedicure/manicure so i thought thats definatley not gel then. But i tried and it did not come off with acetone, so i buffed and then tried and still no luck so ended up buffing it all off.

She had pink & white. I cant see how she could get infills with pink nail varnish? i can understand a varnish white and gel top coat, but even that had never lasted 6 weeks perfectly for me. Seems she has a bloody good top coat! but then my friend said the same to me, she had it done with no uv light either?? They are both way too shiney to be acrylic top coats. I can see how acrylic could be the base but cant see a polish lasting that long esp. on fingers. Also how do you infill pink blush polish?? i really want to just stick to gel overlays, easy infill application etc, but why would my clients pay for a gel overlay that lasts the same amount of time as a varnish with a gel top coat to finish?

You need to ask her if it was a NSS place that she went to as this would explain the unusual product on her nails. Other than that I am as stumped as you are! ;)

It was a standard beauty salon, she uses lechat i think. But my friend who has the same and discribed it the same, she uses one of those places. Shes coming in tonight :-( i have a lot to live up too cause her nails looked great for that length of time. I did her toes with a typical french, pink/white with polush and top coated with ez flow gel it top coat but i was scared to do this cause in my experience it can crack very quickly and i cant do that on her finger nails :-(

Question her carefully on the application process itself. What kind of container did it come from? What did they use to apply it? (Brush or polish lid with a brush) Did they spray anything on it? (activator) Did they ever place the hand in a light? (If so, after each coat or at end of service) What did the materials look like? (Powder, liquid, viscous gel)
Hopefully more of this information will help us narrow down the product!

We talked for ages and after i still had no idea :-( shes not the brightest crayon in the box anyway bless her. So far i seem to have narrowed it down to gel, white polish, gel. Although one minuite she says no uv light and no soaking then she says sometimes uses the light sometimes soaks!!!argh.

Ive decided and ive told her, i my not be able to do what she does and in half a bludy hour aswell!!?? so im going to take it all off, not wasting my time soaking as i dont know if its a soak off gel, so going to buff off and start applying my own gel ONLY overlays!

Tonight though i did the gel, polish, gel thing, luckily she had a 30mmin treatment inbetween as im sure the polish cant dry enough in 5 mins before applying gel and thats where the problem is, although not with her previous salon :-(

Could it have been shellac or gelish ? seems kind of sketchy though if she dosnet know if there was a light or not....

Some NSS out where we are use regular water based acrylic paints for their french's and in their airbrushes.
That WOULD dry in 5min easily.
Could be that they used that.

PS: ask if powder was used at all.
That should answer your question about what's on her nails.
Powder = L&P
No powder = UV Gel

:D

most times clients description of what went on their nails can be patchy to say the least !
they are just relaxing and only interested in the result usually.
i have people sometimes say 'oooh, whats that, is it something new?' when they have been having the same thing for literally years.

would it be possible to contact the salon and ask what the products were?

Sketchy oh yes! I cant ask her anymore ive drained her of info and i dont want to scare her away. The old salon is my direct competition so i think calling the salon is just wrong. I think ive decided to stick to my guns, shes getting a gel overlay and she can pay the price or get the polish and it all crackle off the next day or two. Thats how i work and thats that! i know my products and im stressing about someone elses.

Thanks for your help guys! Im taking a stand with what i do and dont do! lol :)
