Hi just a quick question as i have just been wondering what do you think is better a soak off gel or a non soak off gel? Or no differance?

Thanks guys :green:

Hi hun, i dont think one is better than the other, just different. I use NSI buff off and Le Chat soak off.. I like to use soak off for NNO and gel toes also for clients that like to change there nails pretty frequently.
Buff off is harder wearing and better for tips, sculpts. hth...x

I use Brisa gel, it's a hard gel (buff off) and I wouldn't change it for the world :D
Non yellowing, hypoallergenic (very important plus point!), fantastic longevity, no service breakdown, non rubbery during rebalance, easy to file, coloured gels and shimmer gels which can be mixed to make any colour you or your client require... in one word - Fantastic :D

:hug:Thanks for your replies i am interested in brisa gels as have heard good things and like the look of the colours and shimmers! Just got to do the conversion if i ever get round to it lol!

I think it's a good idea to have both and give the client a choice. I use Bio and youngs gel and talk the client through the differences.. buff off are much harder wearing, but have to say the bulk of my clients prefer the soak off gel so I hardly use the buff off gel anymore

i was always told that buff off was more hard wearing than a soak off - this did come from a good reliable source tho, so i go with that

xx

I agree with Glynis...having used both i would say that a buff off gel is stronger and far less likely to stain or discolour. Because a soak off gel is required to be porous to allow the acetone/remover to break it down it can tend to pick up stains...where as a non porous gel (buff off) does not.

It all depends on what the client is looking for in their enhancement.

If they want a colour or manicure where it doesnt chip and the colour last longer than a normal polish would then a soft gel is ideal. It can also protect their nails to help some clients grow them little longer than normal. You cans sculpt with the softer soak off gel but I would only recommend a fairly small extension of length or the occasional repair of length for a broken nail. Advantage is that it can be soaked off if required.

If the client wants instant enhancement with length then the harder buff off gels are harder wearing and tend to be stronger with tips and sculpting too. This type cannot be soaked off so if needs to be removed it needs to be buffed off. Great for those that want to keep the maintenance of their nails going.

The client needs to be made aware of the advantages and disadvantages of each and together with the client I think you need to work on a solution of which is best for them. Some client can wear one type better than another too.

Therefore I feel that there is a place for both types of gel in my treatment menu.

If you're just starting in gels. I would go with a soak off gel mainly because any imperfections and lifting due to improper prep can be easily fixed.

When I first started doing them my client who was so sweet to let me practice was having such awful lifting. (A mix of my improper prep and her chewing on them) I would try to file off the nails that were lifting at the tip, but eventually I would be ripping most of them off. Which I hated because it was injuring her natural nail. Anyway, if I would've started with a soak off, I could've easily soaked off the nail without injuring anything.

So that's my advice.
