Hi guys!
I'm soon to be a qualified Level 2 Beauty Therapist in July and was woundering if anyone knew what the best next step is to take i'm not going to do level 3 straight away as i have to save the money again to pay for my course fees so i wanted to know how would i be able to get a job in a salon as a new therapist i'm researching in different salons and i'm finding it preety hard to find anything my location for work would have to be around central london as i live so close to it.
I have already been signed off from college as i have completed everything in my range if anyone knows of any good tips or if anyone owns a salon please let me know i dont mind working from the bottom on a min wage as i just wanna gain the expierence.

Thanks :D

Hi guys!

Just as well, you'll be lucky to get anything more than that just after you complete your level 3 either! Some people spend their whole career like that!

I did a BTEC and I had to do both years in one go to get a qualification, but I have spoke to girls who were doing level 3 who had took a year out before and found jobs - although from what I heard they werent full time, more like summer jobs. I suppose it will depend on your area though. I know where I am even if you've been training for years and have the best qualifications you get stuck in the "we want experience - REAL salon experience, not in your sily college salon!" cycle. It can drag you down, it makes you feel like all your hard work has been for nothing. Some people need to be reminded that they didnt spring from the womb, complete with qualifications, a fully blown career and their own salon!

P.s in the meantime, get yourself signed on to jobseekeres allowance. After all, if you are not working and actively seeking for a job you are entitled to it.

I agree it is very difficult to obtain a job after level 3 never mind level 2! I would keep practising all your treatments and continue doing all your own research to improve your knowledge.

All though college gives you the basic knowledge and skills to become a beauty therapist and technically you are qualified, it's up you to build your skills further through personal development to become a better beauty therapist.

When I finished my NVQ3 I thought I knew everything to do with beauty therapy and thought my practical skills were highly competent but I have learned the most in my working experience.

This will make you more employable when applying for your first beauty therapy job and help to maintain it, you don't want to have loads of clients complaining or panicking when you can't do something or furthermore getting dismissed due to incompetency!

There's great articles and tutorials on this site!

Hope this helps x x
