Hi Salon Geeks

I am a new mobile nail technician and have been going since june this year. I have my own website to advertise and put on monthly special offers to try and a get a little business (which seems to have died down at the moment). I have so far been offering a full set of nail new extensions for £15.oo (feel i need to now start charging full price for extensions as i am not making money) but feel that i need something else to bring the business in for September. Does anybody have any ideas, as i would like something different.

Thank You:hug:

What about doing a depilation course? you could offer waxing to your clients, or maybe a spray tan course??

I do fake bake tanning and offer that, and i have booked a place on a waxing course at the end of september:hug:

Ive just woke up and my brains not ready to produce ideas yet lol I just wanted to say that I had a nosey at your website and it looks really nice but what struck me was your prices are very low...I really think you should definately increase them, as you have said your not really making any money from them...I know when your new you probably do not want to be charging full whack straight away but also you do not want to make yourself look cheap as that can put people off.

Charge accordingly but offer introductory prices while you get going and build up your confidence, skills and clients....so for example charge at least what is the average in your area....say £35 for a set....if you give new customers or those that refer a friend an introductory 20 % off...or you could offer 10 or 15 % off and give new clients a free pinkie oil or file for example....then you are still offering them a good incentive and at the same time you are geting paid a more reasonable amount. Do no undervalue yourself x

Hi Anna

Thank you for your comments and your idea's that you have come up are great.

I understand what you are saying about the prices, but i just feel that my work is not good enough to charge any more. I do not have enough confidence yet in what i do that's why i thought if i charged just £15.00 a set clients wouldn't complain. But there again i can see what you are saying about been to cheap as people would wonder why you are cheap???

I just don't know what to do to get more custom as i am running at a big loss at the moment!!!!!

Yeah, it looks too cheap.. And it may actually put people off..

I don't know if this is suitable for you. But what if you charge normal prices and offer a little nail-art for free as an addition to those who do a full set - some flicks and dots that take 5 minutes to do but FREE of CHARGE. And say that the offer is valid until a certain date. People may want to try something that sounds different.
I have an offer on glitters which means that people who want ordinary extentions (not french) can have glitters of their choice for a token price. It doesn't take so much time to add some glitter in between the layers. But that way the client is able to wear nails either with or without a coat of varnish - and they would look different.
I am not sure if that would be suitable for your market though. But those are just ideas. :)

I totally understand what you are saying but you will struggle to increase your prices when you start low...like I said start at the 'higher' place you want to achieve when you are more confident and offer incentives....that way you are still keeping your pricers lower but clients can see what the full price will be eventually so it wont be any kind of shock to them and hopefully you will still be able to retain them.

Just a little idea something I did the other day...Mass text everyone in my phone...basically saying that I will now be adding Gel to my services and Im looking for a few models to have a french NNO to try it out and give me their feedback, etc....I then said I will only be charging £15 for this..and asked them to forward the text on to anyone they think may be interested...and put my number at the end. I had a model the following day and a couple of other interested..so result and I know a few have forwarded it on also so hopefully my text is circulating a little! lol

This is not to say it's not worth a try as you may get a few clients but I do think you have to be careful when using Nail Art as an incentive as it may limit your market....I have a couple who go wild but in general most people just arent interested in any kind of nail art whatsoever...even its free....even if you paid them!!!..cowards! lol

Well, of course, the offer is optional .

If she had a clientelle already - yes, but she says she is new and just trying to build up one.

I don't really have any clients, i have one or two regulars for manicures but that is about it.

Should have said great idea for anyone with clients and wanting to try anything new. Maybe going off the thread but its all sharing new ideas.

The mass text I sent was to family and friends...some of them have sent these onto their friends....these are all potential clients..

Do you have business cards and price lists etc yet?

Just another thought as well..... Do you know if anybody in your area ever organises pamper evenings...or could you organise one yourself? They are usually held in a local school or village hall for example...they are a great way of getting yourself out there and gaining new clients...im hoping to do one myself soon as someone is organising one near where I live.
