I seem to being plagued, currently, with a spots all over the top of my back. A few have also made there way past my shoulders to the top of my arms. They are incredibly persistent. I eat healthily as a rule, i drink one coffee a day and plenty of water and herbal teas, i have tried scrubbing with a body brush, leaving them well alone, only washing with water, and putting various creams and ointments on (moisturise, witch hazel, tea tree) and i am so fed up with them now i want them to go away!

Please, please, please can any one help?

It could be your shampoo and conditioner, try washing your hair over the bath rather than in the shower.

I would suggest that you either go to a salon and have a treatment, which involves a deep cleanse, extraction, exfoliation and mask to rid the back of all the impurities or go into a salon and ask what body masks they have for the back.Darphin have wonderful products that suit this skin type and there are many other fab ranges that can/will help.

Exposing the back to the sunlight/air works wonders for many people.Try not to use too many different products at once with your back,i.e leave at least a week or so with one brand at a time.Otherwise a reaction can arise, which can cause the spots.Dont despair though, there are many products, treatments that will help this problem.

In the meantime though, continue with the exfoliation,no more than 3 times a week though or you may exasperate the condition. The sabacious glands can go into overdrive, trying to replace the oils that have been stripped by too much exfoliation.HTH

Have you tried the australian bodycare skin wash or the ketsugo sprays/lotion? It has made a big difference to alot of people. Ketsugo works by preventing too much sebum being produced - its also amazingly gentle - while abc skin wash will help kill the bacteria.

Just a suggestion.

Also as Babsann said a salon purifying back treatment will do wonders too - usually involves a balancing mask which again will help sooth and purify.

Find a salon near you that does MD Formulations, and try a glycolic acid back peel. It's not as scary as it sounds. You could also try their body clearing complex spray, it's what I give my 16 year old boy to use and works really well on him. Also could try using their body cleansing gel, but without seeing your skin could not recommend exactly which product would be best.

Also company called Jan Marini (sp?) do similar peels I believe, but I have never used their products.

Good luck.

Do you have long hair covering the area? (obviously head hair not back hair lol)
Have you always had them or are they a new thing?
Are they comedones (black heads) or pustules?

How old are you?

Have you had your hormone levels checked? / been to the docs about this?

I agree....go to the docs first and get a few tests, if it really is just a spotty back and no other more serious underlying causes, then Universal Contour Wrap is fab for clearing outbreaks on the body, especially on the back.

As of last year, there are specialist oils your therapist can apply before wrapping you. One of which is a decongesting, bacteria-fighting one which sounds perfect for your condition. A course of three would stand you in good stead of getting rid of your spotty back. hth :green:

(Perhaps combining a deep cleanse and exfoliation treatment, like Babs suggests, prior to being wrapped would be the best for ultimate spot fighting!)

If none of what has been suggested works you could look for a salon that does high frequency added into their back treatment it is ideal for acne skin and helps clear them up fab hth!!!!

Dermalogica do a really good back purifyication (typo?) treatment that meaybe beneficial to you.

But as other geeks said docs 1st!!

I have spots on my upper back too! I believe it's from tanning. Do you go in tanning beds? I don't any more than once a week (although I haven't for a month or so), but I still have them. I heard once that it is a fungis so you may need to see the Dr. to see about getting an anti-fungal cream to topically apply.

I'm curious what hormone issue it might be, as someone mentioned earlier....? I am going to see a natural Dr. next week and am going to discuss hormonal/thyroid issues with him, maybe I'll bring this up to him.

Deenybix if you find anything out, will you PM me please? TIA

I have had this problem too. I've had backials done as suggested above but one of the best things every was using the Green People's Scrub - believe it is a salt one in oil.

It made the world of difference. It is actually quite thick and oily so skin is left really soft but the particles are quite big and they do slough off the skin very effectively. None of the gentle body scrubs I've ever used has been as good.

I believe the authors of the beauty bible make their own using oil and rock salt. One adds oils and 'flavourings' but the other keeps to the simple ingredients.

I'm having the same problem again and I'm going to buy some more. I think as someone said above, keeping skin wrapped up isn't necessarily good for it.

Earlier on this year my teenage daughter went on the contraceptive pill (cant remember the name of it I'm afraid), shortly after she started getting lots of spots on her back but nowhere else! she went to the Dr and she was told that it was probably the pill she was on. The pill was changed, she was given a special ointment to apply to her back (courtesy of me!) and the spots have all gone now. So maybe that's something else to think about - are you on the pill? if so, maybe a change might do the trick?

clinique back and chest blemish spray is pretty good!

only clinique product i could reccomend!! lol.
