Hi, i sprayed my 4 first paying ladies yesterday with autumn gold, now 3 out of the 4 ladies are saying they are stripey, when i was nearly finished on the second lady i noticed that my gun was spurting out air a few times, so i washed out the gun and cleaned the needle, I then continued to spray the 3rd and 4th lady. The fourth lady says she looks great.

The 3 ladies were slightly larger ladies than the last and I'm confused that i've not sprayed enough tan on them also the gun must not have been spraying out tan correctly. If you have a larger client do you spray them more? why would the gun spurt out air like this?

I'd really appreciate any advice on this!! x

How were you spraying the larger ladies? Were you just doing a set amount of sprays per body part? i.e. two sprays down arm, 3 sprays down leg etc?

Did you have enough solution in the cup? that can make it not pick up properly and just spray air.. Is the gun cleaned thoroughly after use, stripped right down, needle out etc?

Hi hun I know sometimes if I'm getting to the end of a tan theres only a small amount of solution left in the bottom of the cup and depending on what angle im holding my gun its just air that comes out so i have to top up my solution a wee bit maybe this what happened?

Hi, thanks for your replies, when i was spraying the larger ladies i did try to stick with what i'd been taught but i feel like i did spray a little bit extra to cover them, i've just spoken to my first tan as it was the 3 rd tan lady that said she and the first 2 were stripey and she says she's only a bit stripey on the legs and tummy. (they are all related!). Now she had quite a large tummy from having children and also i do remember that i don't think i had enough solution and I filled up the bottle more. It was a real trial and error day by the sounds of it, i wouldn't mind i've been spraying my friends and family for free and not had one problem!!

ok, I dont know what you were taught but I dont see how you can stick to a 'one routine suits all' method.... someone who is a size 8 is going to need less solution than someone who is a size 20...

I just spray across the body, I dont count how many sprays they get, they just get as many as it takes whether that is 3 or 13... that is the only way you will get an even application, if you try to stretch say 3 sprays over a larger lady they will be stripey! (only guessing the numbers here but you get the idea lol) they will need more the bigger they are... that goes for arms, legs, belly... everything!

Plus you will need to keep a bit more solution in the cup than you actually need so that it doesnt suck up air

For larger ladies i would spray more not on the same area but make sure every area is covered. Try holding down the trigger at all times rather than stop start stop start all the time as this can bring on stripes more so for a new spray tanner.
So as you are spraying your client keep your finger down on the trigger and spray the entire area.

I.e the back of the legs spray downwards and then go back up whilst still holding it down then come down again (also whilst moving along to ensure you cover the whole back leg)

No disrespect meant to violet star here but do not follow this advise Sarah,
if you keep the trigger constantly held down it will cause your gun to lose air pressure and will cause spurting with the spray gun,
use your gun as you were taught by Julie,
your problems are more than likely down to nerves with them been new first time paying clients and bigger ladies than what you are used to,
remember your training and be methodical when spraying,
yes someone larger will need a little more solution used on them than someone a size 8 would,
always fill your solution cup to half way for each and every spray tan then the air pressure will be correct and you wont run out of solution during the tan, hth

You will need to spray more on bigger girls but you will eventually get a 'feel' for it. Everything comes in time and although it is disappointing there are so many reasons things can go a bit wrong. I think especially with us larger ladies (yes I am one). We can perspire slightly more in the warmer months and cause our own problems that way.

Take heart my darling you are 4 closer to the perfect and consistant tans you want to achieve!

Good luck with your next one's, you will have learned by these.

Love

Sheila :)

Thanks everyone! and Sheila that was such a nice message. Do I go over the tans or just ask them to exfoliate and I'll do a better job next time.

You can do a light mist over to blend everything in,
so you will be applying less solution than you did the first time around and moving quite a bit quicker than you did the first time around, hth

Thanks Louise i don't know what i'd do without you!! xx

No offence Jaffacake but of course one routine suits all, if you start messing around with your "routine" in the early days you will just get yourself all muddled. However, yes a larger lady will need more solution than a size 8 that is a given but sarah isn't stupid and will deploy as many passes on each area as is necessary.

The advice i gave is exactly what i do and every tan i do turns out perfect with no streaks and no problems so it clearly works!
To be honest i dont think its fair at all to tell someone on here not to follow my advice.... you may not agree with my advice then fair enough just tell the lady what your advice is rather than telling someone not to take my advice.
Remember i am as much as professional with experience as much as you are!

Hun make sure you have a clean filter as well this can cause the spurting.
I am a larger lady and I have a few as clients you just have to adjust your routine to cover the extra area ie; on the arms it my be 3 or 4 strips instead of 2 to be honest I adjust my routine to every client as no two people are the same.

With regards to keeping the gun on at all times I'm with louby on this another thing that can happen is you could get a darker area at the bottom and top of each swipe so as said carry on as you were taught and it will get much easier with the more clients you do.

Thanks so much for your advice everyone, I've taken a lot from it all. Thanks Julie for sticking up for me but i think I may have been a bit stupid here (there's alway a first time ha ha :smack:) and not sprayed the ladies enough.
Thanks everyone and enjoy the sunshine xx

I'm not saying dont spray the same sequence for everyone, you do need a routine, what I meant (as I'm sure you well know) is that you cant just say, two sprays down the leg, three sprays down the back etc etc.. because that obviously wont be enough for everyone... and as for her already knowing that, obviously not as she said she hasn't sprayed them enough!

Can I close this thread now, not sure how to, but it seems like it's getting a bit out of hand and that's not what i wanted. Thankyou x

This may be what you do and as a trainer for Couture you can tell your trainees what ever you feel is right,
Sarah is a Tantrick trainee using tantricks equipment and solutions so my advise is correct for her and her equipment,
i know the equipment very well as i have been training people with it for years now and know how it works best,
and please don't try to make out that you have as much experience as me as this simply is not true,
you have been a trainer for a couple of months,
and i did say in the thread that there was no offence meant to you so you had no reason to take it the wrong way.

Sarah if you want your thread closed hun just ask one of the mods who will close it for you x
