THis may be a stupid question, but I am doing a tanning training course late dec. I dont have the funds to buy an expensive spray tan gun as I have spent a fortune on training and products etc.

My question is this one. Is there an inexpensive spray tan gun i can buy that will allow me to practise on friends family until I feel confident to offer it clients?

I should be able to afford better/professional equipment for spray tanning round march time and then I will have practised enough to offer it as part of my service. I know it might sound silly to book a course and then not have funds for the equipment but the tanning course has come free with my other courses so I feel I should go to the training.

thank you

Depends on how much you are looking to spend,
if you only want one that is going to put you on til march then you could risk buying a second hand one and upgrade to a new machine when funds allow hth

This could possibly be false economy for you in the long run. You will probably still pay a fair bit for a second hand hvlp machine and even then if you buy it from the dreaded ebay you run the risk of it breaking down and you won't have any warranty whatsoever.

Also if you are undertaking a course you should be confident enough afterwards do a couple of practice sprays on your family/friends and then get out there and spray, spray, spray. The longer you leave off spraying the general public the more nervous you will become imho.

If you buy from a reputable supplier, you will get a full 12 months warranty with your machine.

theres a user on here called shadez, he does some great deals, you could try searching his name, or read through my older threads to find the link to his name,
I've never had any problems with this equipment, and the machine is designed like what they call a little pig, its fab and I love it, but at a fraction of the cost hth

Hi u can buy machines for around 130 from NSI which i did in the begining, however it di not do me any favours as the machine is basically based on a black & decker fence painter & caused all sorts of probs from loss of tan through over spray & the tan didnt always turn out, it cold easily have cost me my reputation. so i bit the bullet & paid 2000 + vat for the australian gold laser spray system unit expensive i know but it is amazin iv had no probs & iv never lookd backbought the machine in august & its almost paid for itself, if this is too expensive look for other hvlp machines.

HI there

Hi there,

I have done my training with nsi and bought the starter sun5 gun. I also find there is a lot of overpray but have had no real issue with the gun. only in the begining when I was getting used to it the first 4 days I would say. I took it back and they showed me how to fix it.

The tans it gives has been great and I have had no complaint just praise from my work so far.

I think it is all down to your own experience as with anything.

I would say for the basic gun - a lot of overspray and also you can not do a whole lot of tanning in 1 day with them as they are heavy on the arms.

I have a booking for 12 next week and I am dreading the weight of the machine for all of the tans.....

Once I have finished training in other things and have made more money I am going to upgrade to a better one but is good start if you don't have a lot of money and want to get into the business. You can always sell it on to someone else starting out.
