hi

Quick question, unlike sunbeds which have a legal minimum age restriction, do spray tans have the same legal requirement?

Not that I want to start spray tanning babies before photoshoots or anything....

No really..i don't!

But how about 15yrs olds or proms etc? :)

Surely the problem is being alone in a room with an underage person who is undressed? I would insist that any under 16 is chaperoned by a parent.

I'm pretty sure there isn't an age restriction on tanning under 16's, just like there isn't on waxing a minor either. I haven't spray tanned teenagers or anyone under 16 (or waxed), but a friend of mine has done so with many prom girls with no problem. She does insist on a parent being there at the time though.

My little 8 yr old wanted me to spray tan her legs at the beginning of the summer holidays and I so resisted. She tried everything in the book to try to get me to do it. She is very sensitive about her legs being gangly and pale when her friends had nice brown legs.

I did relent and said she could have it done when she came out with 'would you rather I got skin cancer from sunbathing then! You're always going on about how much better spray tans are for you than getting burnt!'

Anyway, I sat her down and explained that she would have to exfoliate and wait about 7 hours before she could go out to play with her friends while the tan developed and then she would have to exfoliate again on day four.

She didn't mention it again after that :) I think it was the fact that she wouldn't be able to go and play that swung it, lol!

I happily do from around 13 upwards.

I've done 2 girls who were 14 but I always have there parent come with them. Think that would prob be youngest I would do

Check with your insurance company, as they are likely to have minimum age restrictions.

I totally agree ..given that there are no legal age restrictions we need to be self governed by way of

1) complying with our insurers requirements..after all were commercial spray tan operators and therefore need apropriate cover for what we do in the work place in the event things go wrong.

2) Common sense...parental consent and attendance safe guards needs to be clarified and fully in place...remember we are open to be taken advantage of by unscrupulous individuals who potentially see an opportunity to make a fast buck out of us

One of our mobile girls does a dance troupe before shows and some of them are as young as 9 :irked: obviously it is safe and there are no safety issues
but i think there are moral issues here
my lil girl is 9 and really wants a spray tan she is always whinging for it but i want her to be a little girl not a teenager and i won t tan her no way!! Dawn did a demo recently on a girl of 16 she looked 25 :irked: she had false ****s (done in bulgaria) and permanent tattoo eye brows and it totally shocked me the girls mother is a lovely woman who owns a very nice upmarket salon and she now uses our solution shes not a member on here so its none of you i promise but she said her daughter had grown up around beauty and had been experimenting since she was 3 !!
I go mad when summer (my daughter) puts lippy on or when she paints her nails(usually because its all over the carpet as well) i am over protective of my sons as well ! but when she starts looking like a woman 12 or 13 ish i wont mind her doing beauty but untill then shes my baby and i want her to be a child :cry:
this is just MY opinion about MY child ime not saying its wrong to spraytan kids but i wont let daddys little princess have a tan yet no way

Oh God my 6 yr old is tanorexic! She hears the machine on, her ears prick up and shes down the stairs and in the tent hair up and knickers off (she thinks tan lines are disgusting!).

She also has her hair coloured too! Her dad hates me lol!

So long as the parents are ok with it I will do it, although for dance schools, pamper parties etc I use stage tan which is a bronzer only tan that doesnt come off until its washed off with soap and water. This helps as its classed as make up more than tanning as its DHA free.

Kate

thank you all for that, was a little worried but 15 would be my limit i think! You've helped me loads, cheers :)

Why oh why can't we just let kids be kids?
They shouldn't be worring about how they look at such a young age-it's quite sad really.

well said angellina

It's also worth remembering that the FDA, only, approved DHA as a topical cream to be rubbed on the skin. They have never approved spray tanning solutions. Please read here FDA Sunless Tanners and Bronzers ... Well worth considering before spraying such young children

jes

well its ok to use dha as a spraytan solution in this country the FDA is the body that covers the united states
our solution was certified safe and is manufactured to iso90001-2000 quality standard
