In a world of my own....
Hi geeks

I have a client who I spray tanned last week (10%) and her tan came came up lovely. I spray tanned her again a week later on Wednesday (same product - 12%) and she called me on Friday (she washed the colour guide off a day later - on Friday) to say that the tan did not come up AT ALL!!! Now, she is a really nice girl (definitely would not be trying it on....) and she said she could not believe it that nothing came up... I am going back to her tomorrow to have a look and to respray her... poor thing kept on apologising to me!!

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this happened? She exfoliated etc. as she should have and she is not on any medication.

Thanks

Did she apply any moisturizer? Or may have applied a oil based moisturizer the day before. What did she use to wash her guide colour off?

No moisturiser and she used Dove to wash the colour guide off.....

Thats the problem, Dove should never be used after having a spray tan it washes the colour off completely x

My Fake Bake aftercare instruction sheet says you can use perfumed body wash/shower gel/soap, etc, but I always tell my clients to use nothing but warm water, as the soap will alter the pH value of the skin, and may affect the tan.
So, does the problem lie at Dove's door, or with any soap type product?

Interesting question, I have used other products and tan has been fine, i have used dove and was white as a ghost. So i would have to say other products are fine, Dove is the major problem.

But i do always tell my clients for your first guide colour wash, Do avoid using any soap, gel, body wash if possible. But if they insist they have to use some kind of lotion i always remind them dove will strip the tan.

Hi, did you make sure you gave the bottle a shake, to activate the DHA?

I've not done that before and the same thing happened to me

Natalie x

That's what I was going to say- did you not shake it or was the bottle old? I would have thought using dove or the like would make it streak not all come off unless she had a really good scrub evenly all over? but then I've never done it, so I suppose if it's really strong! If she used Dove the second time would she have not used it the first time?

Dove sounds like a good solution to a bad tan if it works that well-I may try it next time my fiance gives me a dodgy tan!

we have had major problems with people using dove after having a fake bake tan with us. either no colour shows up, or it does but in patches only. Its rather odd!

anyway, we advise no dove, before or after to all our clients.

I've also been a victim of Dove! I washed the guide colour off, ran the dove along my calf and saw the tan break up and streak as I did so! I can't say there was nothing there though because I was a very streaky mess for a few days

Yes I shook the bottle so DHA was active.... it really sounds like it was the Dove and I am amazed that this could happen but at least it solves the mystery...and removes the usual 'blame' aspect as it is always the therapist's fault!

Thank you.

This is really good to know- NO DOVE!

gosh this is good to know, dove shoud come with a warning lol its a dangerous little character for us spray tanners eh? but as someone pointed out brill way to get tan off is there any particular one that strips well?

I've been a dove victim lol had no idea until I started spray tanning lol did'nt know u had to shake the soloution either  do you have to do it with all soloutions?? my tan was'nt as dark last week but just put that down to the gun not being turned up high enough?? xx

Hiya

Just came back from seeing my client and it was Dove cream oil body wash that she used to wash off colour guide (sounds like a double whammy!!) - just so you all know - she was white....

imperial leather is also quite naughty, but not as naughty as dove. we have a notice in the salon telling people not to use it.
