I am hoping to get your thoughts on this. I was
informed that someone would not be coming on one of our courses as their tutor has told to train with fake bake instead as they think she will have better chances of employment.

Fair enough.

But it has got me thinking , I own a salon and although I use fake bake and la tan I would happily accept any of the following ( and more besides)!

As long as the course is accreditated and insurable I would be happy (would test the potential employee on their practical skill and theory before I hired them)
Sienna x
suntana
nouvatan
vani t
tantrick
etc
etc

I would be more interested where they trained and how they tanned than which certificate they got.

Am I alone in this? I just wondered what you all think about this. Any and all comments very welcome!

I can understand where you are coming from however some training providers and consequential certification does have more meaning and is of more interest/recognition to potential employers as something that the individual has had to attain rather than simply been issued on mass...or simply that the relevent training body has been around for a while

collin, yes i do see what you are trying to say. I can totally see your point. but surely its how good the therapist is, not how shiny her certificate is? (or am a being too simplistic)

maybe its just me, but i would want to know where they trained, what they understand and how good they are. just because they have certificate doesnt automatically mean that they are good at the treatment. maybe i am just too simple a soul sometimes.... and i over think things too....

it's definate food for thought for me. and interesting to see how the world perceives things.

Unfortunatley sometimes Hype...marketing and sometimes genuine hard earned consistancy makes for "perceived value"

HTH

Speaking from a salon owners point of view, i don't particularly take much notice of names!
I have seen people that have been trained by big brand companies and they were useless. I have seen people trained by unknown companies and been really good.
I think 'trade tests' will give you the answers that you need!
I do have a lot of people who ask for Fake Bake but the majority of them have never even been tanned, it's just a name they know so they like to use it to make them look like they know what they are talking about-lol
I hate Fake Bake so i don't stock it so i always talk people into having a tan with my solution.
I've never lost a client because i don't stock Fake Bake or St.Tropez.
Yes people know certain brand names but often they know nothing about them.
I'd give people a trade test and hire them on their abilities and not where they trained!

I get what you are saying too but, Fake Bake have a huge marketing budget and very attractive packaging. But, they started very small have have grown massively when the marketplace was very much smaller than it is today. So the companies you have mentioned in time will be the fake bakes of the future. But the clever ones will move with the times and improve their formulas and not rely on the past reputations.

How many of us still ask for hoovers? and who ends up with a dyson?

On the training issue, you can have good and bad trainers in huge and small organisations.

I agree totally with this. My training was rubbish really. I was even taught to tell my client to apply moisturiser before their tan
I basically trained myself on anyone I could find (friends, family etc) and not being big headed but I consider myself a good spray tanning technician. Ive done hundreds of tans now and never had a complaint yet(touch wood). So really for me training didnt mean anything.
It's based on the therapist not her certificate x

I don't think it means anything from what Company you have trained with, as others have said I've seen people tan bad and good. I trained with St Tropez and Su-do but now only use Su-do. Where I live is full of salons who offer Fake Bake so me being mobile offering a different type of tan gives me an advantage.

Totally agree with Kylieb on "It's based on the therapist not her certificate"
