i have a tan booked in for 2nite and have just found out the girl is pregnant, can you spray tan someone who is in their first trimestar?

I was taught that it is not advisable, due to hormaonal changes that may result in the tan developing patchy/uneven. It's not harmful the mum or baby, just the outcome may not be the same as it would be should a client not be pregnant, this applies throught the pregnancy really but in the first trimester it must be more common due to the hormonal changes hth x

I have done it before and it worked.. i did get told on my training though that it is at your own risk of doing it.. it will not harm the mum or baby but yes mite go patchy.. anything after about 3-5 months will be fine but its completely up to yourself :)

xxx

Hi
I've just been on my training today and was told NOT to spray Mum's to be in their first trimester, mainly because if anything was to happen they could turn around and blame you/the spray tan? HTH?

Hi same here, on my training they also advised no spray tanning in first 3 months...However my insurance company will not cover me at all no matter how far into their pregancy they are!!!

Interesting! As we had a heavily pregnant lady on our course today!!!

This has been discussed many times on here before but my personal view is that you are spraying chemicals over someone and even though dha has been passed as safe for topical use it has not for ingestion or inhalation and it is our responsibility as operators to make sure you are not going to do any harm no matter how small the risk.
Obviously the first 3 months are the most important time while everything is developing so i wouldnt do at all. If after that you still want to do it then sniffits should be given and vasline put on the lips and then wiped off so someone isnt eating it and good ventilation and extraction.
There has never been any studies on spray tanning on pregnant women because frankly how could they, so noone could ever know and im sure millions of people have tans regularly and have had perfect babies but we are learning more and more about how foetuses can be damaged in different ways, sometimes very small ways and i just think it is something we should all seriously be thinking about.
If you google is spraytanning safe while pregnant you will mostly get info stating that it is.Try googling is dha safe for inhalation and you start to see a different picture and the fact that many operators after spraying get chesty and itchy eyes etc is another reason that it may not be entirely good stuff to be breathing in therefore we should all be sensible.
Maybe a manual creme tan would be better in pregnancy.

Just remember when "dancing in the rain"...you just dont know whats a raining down on yer...today it could be volcanic ash from Iceland...tomorrow it could be something rather nasty LOL :lol:

As mentioned, this has been covered many times before. To me the simple answer is to call your insurance company and see where they stand on it... Do not spray tan anybody without insurance cover!
