Hi geeks, did anyone take part in the spray tanathan for safetansummer.com on the 3rd Aug. I got mine on Saturday and just wondered how everyones went? I am so nervous just incase no one turns up.

Well my poor little tanathon was a disaster! I really hope everyone else has better luck.
I've spent weeks organising it, phoning, emailing, posting and I really thought it would be a sucess. We had a mention on the local radio, local press, I emailed local businesses, factories and slimming clubs, posted posters to EVERYONE and yet still nobody showed up!
We had some fantasitc stalls with jewellery, virgin vie, body shop, books, cards, holistic therapy, fantastic raffle prizes, tea & coffee and I spent hours trawling the net for sun related worksheets for the kids to colour in. We even had a chocolate fountain stall!!! I spent a fortune on banners and balloons and other bits and pieces but stupid me didn't realise it was the big weekend in Cardiff (10 minutes drive away from Caerphilly) until someone pointed it out on the actual day. Caerphilly Town was soooooo quite but we did hand out quite a few flyers out about checking out your moles so if it's encouraged at least one person to do so then it was worth it!
We did one tan, and with everything that was sold on the day (each stall paid £5 to cover the hire of the hall which was £30) we made a sorry £37 for the fund.
Ah well, no point dwelling on it. I'm back to square one now thinking up new ideas and maybe will hold an evening event towards the end of the month in a different venue.
I hope everyone else has more luck! I suppose it's still early days too and plenty of time for people to ring up to book a tan so more money to donate to the fund.

Hi Samantha

Hope yours goes better than mine! I held one at home yesterday, spent ages doing goody bags, making fruit punch and fruit kebabs. Lit vanilla and strawberry candles all over the place.

I had 19 booked in (did a time slot for everyone) - only 7 turned up!

I have decided I will do this again, but this time I will do it on a thursday or friday - so that people going out for the weekend might be inclined to come.

I contacted everyone last night to find out where they were - they had "forgotten about it", "couldn't get a babysitter" or "double booked myself". It was very frustrating when you have put so much effort into something.

Good luck with your event - hope it goes well for you!

Gosh what a shame when you had gone to so much trouble putting it together.

I hope you all have better luck if you do them again :hug:

What a shame after all that effort, you both went to..I hope whatever you do in the future goes well...xx

Aww. That's such a shame :(

I'm hopefully doing mine on the 30th so people will have been paid then and with a bit of luck will come and spend an hour or and their money with me!

Better luck for the future though but you're right, people don't realise how frustrating it is when you've put time, money and effort into organising something only for them to say 'I forgot'. I'll bet most thought 'I can't be bothered but some will turn up so it'll be ok if I don't go'.

Chin up girls!

xx

I can sympathise with those who don't have a good turn out.

Last November I organised an open day in the salon for my anniversary. Had loads of offers sorted out, balloon raffle, drinks, nibbles etc.... Posted out & verbally invited 550 clients, had posters about elsewhere, on the day we had a grand total of.......8 throughout the day .

I've told my therapists now that if I get any more bright ideas to hold an open day, talk me out of it.

I think this was exactly the problem - most thought that everyone else would turn up and I wouldn't miss 1 person. shame 12 thought that way!

Gotta laugh - or else I'll just give up!

Oh well - onwards and upwards!:)

Did some feedback calls today following Sunday's marathon effort! One thing that has come out of it - everyone loved the Autumn Gold!

I will definitely be doing another - probably September on a Thursday. hopefully this will pull in a few more customers!

Good luck to everyone taking part!
