Hi Geeks,

Im using Sienna -x and was hoping someone using the same solution can help to answer my question.

I usually refuse to spray pregnant people but this is for my friend. So i've never done it before. She only has about 9 weeks left before she has the baby and just wants her legs done.

I understand that hormones can interfere with the colour and turn it patchy.
Have any of you experienced this with Sienna? If so is there anything that my client can do to avoid this?

Thank you muchly :) xxx

I would only refuse to spray someone in the first trimester hun.
Has she had problems? x

No hun no problems. I just wont spray them as If they miscarry i wouldnt want them to blame me. Just saves a lot of worry. But i dont mind doing it for my friend and she doesnt have long to go.

Having sprayed hundreds of pregnant woman (after the first trimester), with Sienna X, I have not yet come across this problem although we do advise that it can be an issue. If your friend is not complaining of dry patches of skin, you should be fine:)

If she is complaining of dry patchy areas, put some barrier cream on the patches before spraying!

HTH!

I use Sienna and I have a few pregnant clients who are just coming out of the first trimester, they chose to carry on with their tans even though they knew the risk of going patchy, I wouldnt think twice about it if they had 9 weeks to go. I have never had a problem with the hormones making the tan go patchy but I suppose every client is different hth x

Hun there is no evidence that having a spray AFTER the first trimester can cause any problems. I sprayed a lady right up until the week before she gave birth x

assuming its the same with sienna as with the product i trained with, its only the first 12 weeks you shouldnt spray as thats when the hormones are most errattic. Although skin is more sensitive in general throughout pregnancy so make sure you patch test even if its someone you've sprayed before. Also, it is safe to spray during pregnancy and is highly unlikely this would cause a miscarriage.
hth :)

Very good point on the patch test, thank you! xxx

I hope any pregnant women being sprayed are given sniffits and an extractor is being use.Its not about whats on the skin its about a cocktail of chemicals being breathed in have you read the back of a bottle.
Tan solution has only ever been agreed as safe for external use but not inhalation or ingestion.
I will personally not spray any pregnant women.

.

Yey agreed...no matter what brand of solution is being used there are no know adverse effects to mother or unborn child when it comes to the application of a spray tan solution apart from the obvious known possibilities of a less than perfect tan outcome particularly for first timers.

This is of course for the external considerations and I completely agree with Gillian...adequate protection against the inhalation of airborne solution particles is something that must be considered as being of the utmost importance.

Adequate extraction of these particles is of the utmost importance as well as additional protection of sniffits etc as a back up.

May also avoid the need for a vomit bowl

I had a spray tan at 5 months pregnant (although it was with st tropez) - my skin was not patchy at all but I went much darker than I thought I would! so just 1 thing to watch. With her being a friend I would just warn her it could be patchy.

Thanks geeks for all of your fab advice!
I understand that it is ok for us to spray pregnant people but I guess i'm just over cautious, i'm like it with everything lol. My worst fear would be for someone to loose their child and to think 'oh what have I done differently?...oh yeh I had a spray tan' and then blame me.Even though I know it wouldn't be my fault .
So I would rather just not do it but i'm not knocking anyone that does.

I have advised my friend that it could be patchy due to hormone levels. She doesn't mind as it's only her legs and can cover them easily. I'm sure it will be fine xxx

Sorry...what are sniffits?!!! xxx

they are sponge plug things that you put up your nose that are a filter that you can breathe through, in four years I have never had anyone wanting to use them!! still have the same amount left as when I did my training..

TO be honest I would happily spray a pregnant women regardless of how preggers they were.

Most women dont even know they are pregnant untill they have missed a period by which time they are approx.6 weeks preggers. The trimester is up at 12 weeks and the hormones that were there at 1 week, 6 week, and 12 weeks are still there at 40 weeks. Miscarraiges happen to one in every three pregnancies during the first 12 weeks. I would bet my bottom dollar that there has never been a miscarraige due to a spray tan. It is just sadly very common and an indication that the pregnancy was not viable.

The best you can do is provide your client all the information, possible contr-actions and if they wish to proceed good ventilation and after care advise.

As a heavily pregnant women a pray tan can do wonders for the feel good factor when they feel fat, heavy and have had enough!

I think also that it should be the womans choice. Give them the facts and allow to make their decision.

FOr what its worth i have had many spray tans during my pregnancies and they all made me feel wonderful.
