I have yet another question for you spraytanning experts!

I spraytanned a fair skinned lady last Friday and it went well. But we're curious about why the spray tan doesn't seem to take on the botton of her legs (from the knee down) why would that be? I don't understand why! I sprayed her the same way I spray myself or my hubby and it takes well on us but on her it doesn't! (She prepped properly)

A little background on her though: A few years back, she had thyroid problem which is now resolved and before then she had laser hair removal done on that part of her legs...could that affect the tan?

Just wondering what you all think and what I can try to fix it!

BTW, I'm really enjoying this spraytan thing!!!

Thank you,
Marie

you could try spraying the lower legs 2x. My face never takes dont know why i have to go over it 3 times!

Thank you, I'll try that!

I'll try anything! She's so pale, LOL, she's desperate for some color!!!

Hi Marie,

Clearly if the tan has developed elsewhere on this customer there is no reason why it shouldn't take on this area.

try applying more to this area and see if that works.

Does this lady wear stocking socks or maybe high boots???

Make sure she pays special attention to this area when ex foliating and that she doesnt moisturise the area prior to the spray tan application
HTH ???

I have had this happen to clients in the calf area on occasion for no obvious reason but usually find if you spray down & notice it does not seem to have any colour, then quickly spray lightly in the opposite direction (ie upwards) & that should show that the tan has 'taken'.

just a thought, but is your machine too close to the client and is pulling the spray away into the filter instead of the clients skin??
just a thought as i said!!!

lol!!
it was just a thought, as i was taught to place the machine as far away as i could to avoid this happening!

the spray , especially lower legs and feet could be sucked in before it gets chance to hit the skin,
so i always place my machine well away from the spraying area

That's interesting! I do have it a fair way back from the ten but did not know that was the reason why you had to do that!

I will try moving it to another area to see what happens, thanks!

P.S - sorry, didn't mean to pinch some one else thread by the way!! Sorry Marie.

Just another thought...

When you stand up, the top of your legs come more forward than the bottom of your legs (does this make sense) unless you are stick thin...

Some people spray form the top of the leg down to the ankle and only spray up and down, they dont move with the shape of the clients body... therefor, they spray further away from the clients on the bottom of the legs than they do on the top. Causing the lower leg to be lighter than the top.
(i am sure i could have but that in a simpler way, but its Monday)

This could be your prob...

Seems you were taught well Nikki

So the extract module can greatly assist in removing airborne DHA (as well as smelly feet odour) but if positioned incorrectly can actually cause problems if incorrectly placed.....

Thank you all for your input and ideas!

Everything that has been said makes a lot of sense. I will try everything until I find the solution!

I am determined to get her legs tanned!

Well there you go... I have NEVER smelt a clients feet while tanning... it never even occurred to me that some might have whiffy feet... so my extractor must be doing a good job then lol! Or it could be that all my clients have loverely sweet smelling tootsies... :)

When doing a couch treatment, I often wrap a clients feet in a towel due to them being a little whiffy and to keep them from getting chilled ... for their comfort tho.. although it does help my comfort too hahaha....

yes collin!! lol

also as gemma says, you have to follow the contours of the body aswell,

i agree with all replies.. I have found this problem with the bottom half of legs have researched it.. The best explanation is even when mostly fair people r exposed 2 the sun the lower half of legs tan less than the rest of the body. This is because the rest of the bosy is maily exposed 2 sunlight all year around. Thighs are known 2 colour darker than lower legs.. I hope this has been usful.. Best of Luck

i always always always spray the legs twice sumtimes even 3 times!..making sure i stay parallel with my clients body! xx

Hi all, my lower (front) legs always came out very pale, until I watched my husband actually do the spraying and just like Gemma said happens, he sprayed straight down instead of following the contour of my legs (which are, sadly, much more stuck out at the top than the bottom).
Having said that, I now always "pull away" slightly when I get down to the ankles and feet to avoid those areas going too dark (as advised by a clever someone on this forum). And people think spray tanning is easy, eh .........

I was told (by an older geek) that on legs, each layer of skin is thicker than on any other part of the body. Therefore the tan lotion does not penetrate as deeply. She also said that was why cuts on legs take longer to heal.
I have a couple of clients who have the 'pale legs syndrome'. I go over them 3 times to get them the same colour as the rest of the body. They both seem to have the type of skin which looks mottled when untanned - you know the type - it's like they've been too near the fire
I don't 'pull away' on legs or have a low extractor, so it's not those reasons for me.
Anyone else heard of the 'thicker skin on legs' theory ?????

I have the same problem with my sister. she has really bad circulation in her legs to. not sure if this has anything to do with it.

When I was trained to spray you rainbow across the body all the way to the knee then you go verticle but I tend to rainbow all the way to the ankles and then verticle on the lower legs. Since that I have had no issue with her lower leg area.
