Hi everyone!

Newbie here :)

Yesterday I had my spray tanning training with Fake Bake.

Today, a couple of the ladies in my office have offered to be test subjects to practise my tanning skills lol.

Does anyone/has anyone done a spray tan on black skin?

Pardon my ignorance, but is there spray tan solution specifically for black skin or could I use "regular" tan solution?

I haven't decided on a supplier yet (most possibly LA Tan or Nouvatan) and just wondered if anyone could recommend any products that I could use?

Thanks for your help!

Hi :)

I think you would use your regular solution (whichever brand you decide to go with) and as with all skin types, choose the correct percentage for the type of skin you're intending to spray.

Sorry I wasn't too helpful! But this was what I was taught at my training.

Sorry Jacquelineanna, I'm not quite sure what you meant by pardon me; I'm just wondering as a newbie to spray tanning if there were any specific tanning products for black skin. This wasn't mentioned in my training yesterday.

Thanks Tommo for your reply :)

Hopefully Tommo's reply helped you.

Or you need to go back to your very recent training trainer and ask her for this information.

Actually I had heard that there is a 'sparkle' type spray tan product you can get to enhance olive and black skins - that sticks like a tan ??

I have no idea what it's called though - but it's a sort of shimmer I think.

I doubt it would be very useful for technique tho as I don't think it would need to be even etc if it's just shimmer.

<could be totally wrong>

Jacquelineanna, did the OP offend you with her post? You are usually very helpful and I often love to read your answers to the questions posted on SG that's all :) I think we are a little confused with your response?

You've came across really rude. She is asking people for help from their experience as a lot of people who use this site do to seek help!

I doubt there will be a specific tan for black skin and it's probably not required, I do a girl who is mixed race, she is not very dark but I just use a higher percentage on her like on people with olive skin. It depends how dark they actually are, if she is really dark then a spray tan may not even be noticeable on her. Hope this helps x

Hi, do you mean Black African skin? I don't think you need a specific colour on to tan a Black skin. I'm Black African and when I did my training 2 years ago, I had a tan as well just to know what it feels like especially when I start tanning clients and to be honest I couldn't see any difference when my trainer finished but as soon as I got back in from the training my husband asked what I had done to myself even my lil girl (5years old) asked me what hapenned. Whereabout in Kent are you?

There are so many skin types I think the OP just wanted to cover her back so she is prepared for every possible situation :)

Hi hun I trained with fake bake last year we had a black lady on the course which was actually really helpful, we used the darker tan which works better on darker skin tones but you can use either dark or original. Black skin can sometime be uneven or slightly dull so having spray tan gives the skin a nice glow. Xx

Tommo,

The OP has asked for assistance with spraying black skin.

Not mixed race skin, oriental skin, brown skin, but black skin.

I have a feeling that this lady knows exactly what she is doing with this question.

I am happy that you realise how out of character my response is and I thank you for that.

Although I don't consider my response rude when compared to the way some geeks write on this site.

Slightly unhelpful maybe :wink2:

This site, along with others, are often subjected to trolls trying to start trouble.

This question seems to fall into that category.

If the OP is genuine then my last sentence is retracted with an apology.

Jacqui xx

Thanks everyone! :D

Sincere apologies if I've offended anyone, that wasn't my intention at all :(

A couple of my "willing to be spray tan models" are black african and I just wondered if I could use fake bake etc.. or if an alternative could/should be used.

Thanks Shelleyboo. It wasn't mentioned to us yesterday at our FB training, and it didn't even cross my mind to ask - duh!

emsyj - the product you mentioned sounds quite lovely. I'll have to have a google!

olabecee - Thank you :) I'm in Bexleyheath.

Thanks again everyone for your replies and apologies again if I've upset anyone with my post.

To be fair, I understand where you are coming from. I did not understand the question fully. Having read some of the responses I can see that you might want a tan to even out skin tone or add "glow".

However, as an olive skinned person myself, I have never even thought about going on a sun bed or having a spray tan. It has just never entered my head. My skin is the colour lots of people would be trying to achieve with a fake or real tan.

Without being politically incorrect, Ohlalabeauty I would suggest that you don't spend a lot of money on specialist products. This cannot be a large market.

Oohlalabeauty, I do not feel that you offended or upset anyone with your question, it is something I would like to know the answer to also and the mind boggles as to how a simple and innocent question can (again) be turned into an ugly debate!! It could only happen on SG!!!!
