Still unsure about building a free edge - sorry!

I have read the tutorials on building a free edge on bitten nails etc but there are a few things I am still unsure about, sorry if my questions are very stupid but I am a very blonde brunette!!!!! It explains about butting the product up to the nail edge to lengthen the nail bed, what product are you using, I use gel can it be done with this? Once the free edge has been built and you apply more gel over the full nail to balance it surely the nails will be rather thick, as the skin on the end can be rather bulbous - and if you apply product over this part i imagine there would be a big step between that and the real nail. Hope you guys can make sense of what I have written! I look forward to reading your replies as I want to be in the know of how to build a free edge as I have clients waiting and I keep having to put them back! xx

You would make the 'new' free edge a very thin application.

Have you tried saddling a tip on bitten nails instead?

have some pics in my album of a client using this method with gel and she has really bolbous skin and it worked fab.i have also done it using l&p and i found it works great using both products.let me know if you need anymore help.
