I did a client's hair last night, has around 50% grey. It was just her roots so I went for a base 4 with some 4.6 with 20 volume peroxide and it didn't cover her grey very well, the really white bits didn't take very well at all. I used igora royal. Do you think that I should have used a higher peroxide or maybe a different brand? I have never had this problem before. Thanks

I don’t use Igora so what’s their advice for colouring grey?
Some brands such as Matrix have specially formulated tints for very coarse grey hair, so you could consider swapping brands.
Otherwise, you could try pre-softening with neat peroxide for about 5 mins before applying your tint mix?

If I have someone who has problems with their colour taking I would either pre soften, or using a resistant hair mix.
More colour to peroxide, i.e. 30g colour to 20g peroxide 30 vol :)
