hi to all hope i can find someone to help as i'm having such a blonde day lol.
right need to know what treatments would i give a client if they had the following: minor corrugated furrows
serverely bitten nails, hang nails, splitor brittle nails and discoloured nails.
also where would u store nail enamel?

please help:confused:

there's not much you can do for furrows or "ridges" other than some light buffing to bring down the high points a bit, but be careful as doing this will thin the nail plate, you could also use a ridge filler and then a polish or top coat to disguise the problem. bitten nails of course just need to grow out, and the person is going to have to kick their habbit to let that happen, applying enhancements helps some people stop biting but others will just bite their tips right off, so it really just depends on the person and how determined they are to kick the habbit!lol:) hang nails can be done away with by moisturizing, apply cuticle oil daily and you should see them disappear after awhile as long as your client takes care of their nails and hands. same goes for brittle nails, regular moisturizing is the key, and make sure they're not using any "strengthening" treatment on their nails as these can really dehydrate the nail plate and cause them to become even more brittle and flakey. discoloration can usually be helped depending on the cause, some medications or health disorders can cause discolored nails and if that's the problem they need to see their doctor to determine if anything can be done, but if the nails are just stained (from smoking, colored nail polish ect) some thorough cleansing, and light buffing should do the trick. for deep or dark stains there's a product called bubble white that is basically denture cleaner for nails lol, it works pretty well, its an effervescent whitening soak, you should be able to find it in most beauty supply stores but if not just make a peroxide and baking soda paste, gently rub onto the nails and let it sit for a few minutes then rinse! hth, good luck:)

serverely bitten nails, hang nails, splitor brittle nails and discoloured nails.

furrows- buff lightly to smooth the surface, furrows comes with age too also so its hard to prevent
nail biter- acrylic sculptured nails, even if that person have only half a cm of nail plate you can still make really nice nails so prime and add a small bead directly close to the edge side walls to side walls of the nail and build a nail plate, then slip a form under the first bead and start building zone 1 2 and 3, remember the first service should keep the acrylics short until her nail bed grows out more, then you can extend the length
hang nails- apply cuticle oil to the cuticles everynight before bed to moisturise and maintain supple cuticles
brittle nails- hot oil manicures can improve the condition
discoloured nails as in yellow nails- hand soak the nails for 5 mins and lightly buff off the surface yellow layer

Hi toni2008, can I ask if you are asking these questions as part of your coursework? The reason being that you would help yourself loads if you researched this information yourself in textbooks and college notes. Google is also helpful. I used google often when I was studying.

Failing this, your tutor should help you. We don't give answers to assignments on Salon Geek if this is what your post is about.

How does giving toni this information help her in her coursework?

Don't know if this is for an assignment or not but your questions do sound like they are. Please don't take this the wrong way but I agree with what Mrs Clooney says here.. aside from having qualifications in learning and develoment myself, I am also studying for my NVQ 3 and I have to say that just being told an answer is not going to help you learn or understand anything.

It's ok knowing the answers to questions but for your qualification this element of it is called 'knowledge and understanding' and shows that you can't just 'do' a practical task but that you understand the what, where, when, why and hows of it too.

It is a much better learning process to research these things yourself as the information will sink in much better for you. Some of the books available go into these things in more detail and offer more understanding to the reader.

no offence but all this information will be in your text books hun !! also you really need to know this off by heart as when exams come up if it isnt set in your brain you will totally draw a blank .. even i did on mine and i had revised loads
i also found i wrote stuff like this down in a book which helped, and then you can know all your d & d , bones etc.. off by heart then
hth x

Was thinking the same thing. Guess it's getting close to exam time or assignments have to be in soon . If people started in September they will probably have assignments or end tests due around now.

Of course - mani & pedi assessments and the dreaded written exam! :) But it's all stuff they should know, right??

Guess it saves time looking up the answers in their college books if they ask here and get the answer. Next people will be asking for the answers to be forwarded in word format so they can just print it and send it in as is.

Spot on! My beauty therapy NVQ2 college course started in Sept, the first written test (manicure) is this Tuesday! I know the answers, I have thoroughly researched (and already hold a VTCT level 2 in nail treatments, plus my other nail qualifications gives me a head start:green:).

I agree, I've always learned much more by researching myself, and when I have a test coming up, I go through my books, handouts, etc, and write down several times the key points I need to know. PLUS - here's a tip for people who can't remember complicated names eg epidermis, subcutaneous, paranychium etc. use them as your password for different sites, etc. You won't forget it more than once, I can tell ya:green:

To all that left me a message to read my txt book, i wasn't at my own home which is y i came on here. But hey not to worry went home while me lttle boy was sleeping to pick it up and did it on my own. So thanks for the people who tried to help :)

you're very welcome! I don't know why anyone thinks its a bad idea to ask questions on here if you're a student. I don't think you asking what a professional would do in those situations qualifies as us "doing your homework". I think it shows you're interested and you care to learn. why is it any different than looking it up in a book or on google? im sorry everyone jumped all over you on your first post, that's just the kind of thing that makes people afraid to ask questions on here, which is such a shame because we should be willing to help and share our knowledge with anyone just starting out in this field...especially if they ask for our advice. I wish I knew about this site when I was in school, there's loads of great information on here; what a great study tool! keep posting hun, and ask all the questions you want, that's what we're here for.:)

I think you might have misunderstood Toni... We are all very helpful on here but mostly we want YOU to help yourself.

As I said in my earlier post, someone telling you the answer is not the best way for you to learn it. It offers you no real understanding behind the topic, which is what you will need in your future careers.

There is also an excellent search facility on this site and the topics you asked about have probably been covered many times. If you have a look at this you will probably see just how many times these types of questions get asked.

This site is an excellent resource of information and whilst everyone wants to be helpful, me included, we don't want to rob you of your valuable learning experience. :)

I have nothing at all against giving advise, that is what this site is all about and i spend hours on here giving out advise,
but i refuse to do home work for people,
there is a big difference and that is the point that is trying to be made here hth.

If you were not at home, then perhaps you should have taken your text book with you, or waited until you got home to complete your assignment! If it was not urgent then your definitely could have waited. If it was urgent, then perhaps you left your assignment too late to complete. If this is the case, then you need to organize your time for study!

In my opinion, if toni was keen to learn, then she would have organized her time and looked up the information herself or done a search or asked for direction to the correct books, websites etc. Toni's initial post asks for direct answers to questions rather than a pointer in the right direction!

There is also a fab search facility which we could have guided you to rather than just dishing out the answer! what a great study tool! keep posting hun, and ask all the questions you want, that's what we're here for.:) Yes, please do keep posting, but we won't give you the answers to your assignments.
