Hi geeks,

I am starting a course in a couple of weeks doing NVQ2 Beauty Therapy.

I would like to practise what I am studying on friends and family and know I need insurance for this.

Can anyone recommend a good insurance company and what I should be looking for!

Thanks

Hi hun,

BABTAC provide student insurance for £19.50 - have a look at this link for info - BABTAC.COM - The Official Site of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology.

Having said that, you might want to wait until you actually start your course as your college may already have been able to negotiate a better deal for their students with a specific insurance company. Just an idea, but the link will give you more information.

Good luck with the course - you will love it. Come back and let us know how it is going.

Guild Student membership insurance cover stipulates that students require the direct supervision of a Full Guild member when carrying out treatments on any member of the public. Students are covered to carry out case studies outside of college for the following treatments only:
  • Aromatherapy
  • Baby Massage (The Therapist MUST teach the parents/guardians how to carry out this treatment on their baby using a doll)
  • Reflexology
  • Indian Head Massage
  • Body Massage
  • Manual Facials
  • Make-up
  • Manicure and Pedicure (excluding the cutting of cuticles.)
Student membership costs £55, with a one off £10 joining fee in the first year. You can join online here, or by calling 0845 2177 383.

Hi I have been looking at Stuart Alexander Insurance. I am doing a VTCT beauty specialist course and they do a special course for students. They seem quite reasonable. HTH. Paula

As you can see from the first reply, BABTAC student Insurance is available from £19.50 - this includes the option to charge for case studies - at a reduced rate obviously.
